CUE IS SOLD PENDING FUNDS :)

Last year I had the great fortune to visit the Philippines for one month. I hung out at "One Side" and "Hermes", saw some great players, met some great people especially DGEM and JOYREN from this forum. They took me to meet Tony Bautista and to see his shop and work. I was so impressed with what I saw I ordered two cues. One was a SW style cue which was immediately snatched up by a good friend here who is an A player. He couldn't believe the quality and the hit of that cue. The other is a wrapless cue that I designed based loosely on a Sugartree I loved but couldn't afford. I chose the wood myself from what Tony had available and we also ordered a Mezz Alpha Hybrid shaft . That shaft cost almost $300 bucks and as you can see from the pics is curly maple. It hits a little stiff for me but many others love it. There is another shaft of Tony's that goes with the cue also.

Specs:
Cocobolo and BEM
59"
19 oz
12.75mm shafts.
Radial Pin

The cue is perfectly straight both together and apart. There is not a single scratch or ding on it. I did play very little with it but it barely has any chalk blue. I am selling as always strictly on a satisfaction guaranteed basis. If you don't love the cue simply return it immediately for a complete refund.

Reason for sale: I play very little anymore, and when I do it is on a bar league and I use my Paul Dayton sneaky. I can't seem to adjust to anything else, but believe me, this cue is gorgeous. The balance and hit is just FABULOUS ! The finish is flawless. Every Bautista cue I've seen was near perfect.

Here is some "curly mango" wood that Tony has available. I intend to order a SW style cue using this wood. Tony will core it with Purpleheart. What two colors do you think the veneers should be ? I can act as an intermediary if anyone would like a custom cue made with this wood. $550 with the curly mango, your specs, two veneers, cored with Purpleheart ! One shaft.

Nice cue..

GLWS... but do you have any full length pics of the cue, perhaps?

Thanks

Hi Tom

Good luck in your sale, well i know this would be really a steal considering the Alpha shaft alone.

well i also have been playing little lately, lost the passion of playing :(

Darwin, I offered him full price + shipping and to take the responsibility of the cue once it's in USPS's hand but haven't heard back from the seller. I guess he doesn't want to sell it internationally or to me .. oh well.

Good to meet u in SG and hope u r havin fun in KL. I'm off to BKK on Friday for a week or so. Will see u in PH soon, I'm sure.

This sale is not worth the trouble. I went to the poolroom this morning and hit a few balls with both shafts. I must be nuts. Nice people want me to ship the cue to Romania and Singapore. Like I said, I must be nuts. This cue should stay right in my safe. It hits like a Howitzer !!!

The butt is 29 3/16" long and weighs 15.10 oz.
Both the Mezz and the Bautista shaft are 29.5"
The Mezz shaft is 3.70 oz
The TB shaft is 3.55
Doesn't look like it has a removable weight bolt.

My calipers have a dead battery. The diameter of the butt is about the same as all my unwrapped sneakys. Not too thick or too thin. Sooner or later I'll get a new battery and then we can measure all the diameters, joint, ringwork, ferrule and butt.

The balance point, crudely measured, is approximately 19.5 with the Mezz shaft, largely in part to a Cocobolo forend and a BEM handle. This cue is forward weighted like Ed Kelly asked Ginacue for in the 60s. They used an ebony front but same result. Better and more complete forward motion.

I'm vacillating now about selling this cue at all. I have $750 in it and I don't have any other LD cues. This one is gorgeous and hits like a freight train.

You are probably right DGEM to try to get it back...lol !

Do you know what ? After taking all the measurements, balance point etc , I'm realizing what brand of cue this is very similar too. The shaft and butt weight distribution. The BALANCE point. The relative length of shafts and butt. The joint other than this has a Radial Pin and the other one I'm thinking of uses a 3/8X11. Little difference in playability. Who knows what brand I speak of ? i THINK I'LL JUST KEEP THIS CUE ;) LOL !

Hi Tom,

I'm ready to say the brand's name, if you agree to sell it in the end :). Anyway, I'm sure that any decision you'll make, you'll give it the right thought.

I'm going back to the poolroom this morning Val. I'm going to try to decide. It plays stiffer than my Dayton with the modified Pro taper, but that Mezz shaft is very accurate I noticed regarding deflection. I've always played with pro tapers and ivory ferrules all my life...bout 40 years, but I'm not too old to learn lol. The resounding thunk is sweet too. We'll see.

I'm gonna tell you a well kept secret ! That Tony Bautista really knows how to make a cue ! The workmanship on his cues is awesome. They don't have any leather wraps except sea snake, which I'm iffy about, and the weak link is probably shaftwood, but OMG, you can get a LD shaft and be out the door for WAY under $1000. Tony supposedly has a new process to
treat wood against warping too. I haven't seen it yet but his normal finish is flawless !

DGEM and JOYREN from this forum are Tony's representatives. They helped me greatly in the Philippines, and now we are friends for life. No better guys anywhere ! Deal with absolute confidence. They provide you with a computer generated design before you send a deposit. It's very helpful in choosing veneers etc. They ship FedEx and send pics in the cues WIP. How can you beat that ?
