Truely homemade lathe

Great as a project/novelty item. For an every day use lathe, I think the time would be better spent refurbishing an old cast iron bench top.

Speaking as one who has built a Gingery lathe and refurbished an old cast iron benchtop I agree. The Gingery took me several years to build. With the cold-rolled steel square ways it is not that smooth a lathe. I suppose if one did a great job at scraping the ways flat/parallel it would be better.
