So, I got a line on a cue that is totally out of the norm for me. I've been playing with a Schon and the like for YEARS. I tripped on a cool looking deal on Ebay for a cue with an "Ivory" radial joint, ivory check rings in the butt, and ivory butt cap with the rest of the cue being black with silver rings at the joint and Irish linen. The taper is Euro/conical and the wrap and joint are thicker then my Schon with the cue weighing the same at 20oz. I like the handle section being thicker!
The test drive went very well today. I didn't need too much adjustment, but the tip needed a little shaping.....too nickle flat for me. I think the tip is a Kamui? thats what a friend said it was, and I trust him. The deflection is little less then my Schon, and the hit softer, but I like it just fine. I wanted to keep an open mind with this cue having tried many big pin cues in the past, but never an Ivory joint.
This cue goes thru the ball very nicely with no abnormal sounds, just a solid feel back to my hand. I'm not sure about the taper yet, and the shaft diameter is fat for me at a full 13mm so a thinning pull back of the taper might happen down the road?!
What I really like is the simple clean look of this cue. Very stylish IMO. I'll report again later after the next outing.....most likely at the EXPO......
