I read somewhere a while back where if you have a warped butt and try to turn it down that it would most likey warp again in the same spot is this true? and what are the percentages of it happening or is it for sure to warp again?

Tricky question, It depends on where the warp is. Is it really warped or should you resplice the cue. Main point, why would you turn a warped butt any way. Start with basics and define what has actually moved. When in doubt don't do any thing and send it where it can be done correctly.

IMO, turning it down further would just be too much work, depends on what part and how bad the warp is. It would alter the weight and balance of the cue. In some cheap cues that I practiced on where the butt was warped, I retapered, then seal with thick coats of epoxy finish close to the butts original dimension then sand between centers. Looks fine but didn't hit the same.

It didn't have Vee points did it.

Normally, warped = garbage, but in some cases, it can be worth it to re-build the cue.
It's easiest with a wrapped cue, after installing a new handle, most warpage can be eliminated pretty easily, and often with no size reduction.

I aggree, If the warp is in the handle on a wrapped cue might be in good shape to replace, but otherwise, probably just junk or good for parts maybe. I would not try to turn It out myself, but that does not mean no one else can successfully turn it out I guess. would probably depend on how much It was warped if even possible, and atleast some diameter would be lost unless the clear was built up really high, which I imagine would alter the hit some, as mentioned. Michael, no it did not. Just decals:eek:
Searched for it awhile back, found it and sawed it off at the ajoint - man it was a one piece maple butt... down to the buttsleeve. A wrap goove was just cut in the handle area. It hit fine though. Tells a whole lot of story for one piece butts and the risk of having one piece of wood that long. :o

The joys of one piece butts. The only wood that I've seen that could hold up as a one piece butt is Purple heart and Bacote and only the Bacote that is light in color but I still wouldn't do it.

Yeah, I thought about It with some maple and just thought It too risky. If I did, one of those 2 woods would be My choice as well. purple heart is excellent under a wrap also, better then maple IMO.
