Tyler Styer was kind enough to spend about an hour with the Cue Sports Live Invitational announcers. Here is a link to the commentary as well as some of the key points I picked up. Hope others find it interesting.

Workout - running and weight lifting, but less lifting right before a big tournament. Ran 4 miles before Calgary Cue Sports Live Invitational.
He says that lifting will help you deliver the cue straighter, but will mess you up a little the first 2 weeks you start.

Meditation - introduced to meditation by the Mosconi cup coach Yohan Ruijsink. Says it helps athletes.

Practices only 2-3 hours per day (also a decision from Yohan) and not 6 hours a day. It's really just maintnance work.

Equipment
Predator SP24 Butt with 12.9 Revo, BK Rush break cue, AIR jump cue. Cue is 58 inches.
Cue tip is Predator Victory Soft. It comes with the Revo.

When getting a new cue tip. Uses soft tip then smashes it for 5 minutes with cue ball to firm it up then shapes the tip. He likes the same grip and life of soft, but likes the feel once it is harder.
Extra info for reference - Jacoby Black shaft comes with Kamui soft. Announcer used this, but changed it to medium. Now he is going to try Tyler's technique.

Get to the tournament room at least 30 minutes before a match (preferably 1 hour) to get acclimated physically and let your eyes adjust.
Spend time outside of pool room also. Don't just stay there all day and night.

What advice would you give for the mid-level player to improve?
Make sure you are doing purposful practice. Something you can keep score with.
Always play like it's for real - not just for fun. No circus shots.

Uses CTE (Center To Edge) aiming system by Stan Shuffett.

cueing off the rail
- if it's withing a few inches of the rail then open bridge
- 5 inches or more then closed bridge
-- with cue on the rail uses an extended open bridge with fingers on edge of table to get most length
