Being relatively new to the sport i am just curious what types of joints are most commonly used on the players here on AZB.In reading about the players of years gone by it seems(with the exception of Martin cues) tht the 5/16-14 stainless steel was the overwhelming (maybe only) choice. Now it seems you see a lot of wood to wood flat faced, ivory flat faced, etc. Is the traditional SS 5/16-14 still widely used or do trends come and go like in most every thing else?Thanks,M.S.

I use my knees and elbows.

Seriously, both my playing cue and jump cue have uni-loc joints.

Oh the sweet hit of ivory. I have an ivory joing on my titlest conversion, and its sweet, other than that i like wood to wood. Seems the southwest style pin is what i also prefer.

My Skip is a piloted ivory joint and hits really nice. I too like the hit of wood to wood flat-faced joints, though I favor the longer 3/8-14 pins of Bender's and Omega/DPK's.

I use a 3/8-13 flat faced southwest brass style pin in my custom prather.Or a flat faced radial pin. They hit all so sweet to...

Actually if it is a "Southwest" style brass pin, it should be 3/8-11.

FWIW.

Thai Sticks and a wood-to-wood with a radial pin.

I read something on one of these forums recently (forget which one) that someone did a blind test (taped joints so they could not be seen) with players and different joints, and no one could tell which was which (or something to that effect?).

So... So far as hit goes, I think it is half a dozen of one and six of another.

Anyway I prefer a Uni-Loc joint or quick release because it is quicker to put together and metal screw to metal joint because I feel this will last longer. Also I prefer metal rings because they don't chip or get damaged easily.
