I received a flyer about the US Amateur Tournament. However, I noticed that the "prize" was prestige with no cash payouts for any of the places. I remember a thread a while back saying that some folk only find their best game for money, or only play for money. So do the top Amateurs play in an event with no money? Is this the highest standard Amateur Tournament in the country as the name implies, or is there another one?

US Amateur

the winner recieves paid lodging and entry fee to a pro event next year.

oh.........and a year's free membership to the APA........whats an apa membership like 20 bucks a year???

personally i think its just another public relations tourney that is only geared to generate more money for the APA...........but that is just my opinion.

much easier ways to get paid entry to a pro tourney and make some money for winning if you ask me.

In the past, the winner received paid entry into the U.S. Open, which is $500, plus lodging and maybe food.
I'm not sure if that still goes for this year.

Concerning the U.S. Amateur, it is a good tournament with high quality competition.
