Hello,

I have a 10F series Atlas lathe with a 5" Union 3 jaw chuck in which the jaws are bad. I switched jaws with another Atlas lathe I have and it ran true. I changed the jaws between the chucks and the Union 5" chuck worked fine with the other jaws.

SO, I need a new set of model # A327 jaws for the Union 5" chuck. Where do I buy them???

Ok John, I will bite. Hows come you didn't just bore out the original jaws a little? Sorry I don't have a sourse for you.

No one on AZ knows where to buy replacement jaws for a 5" Union 3 jaw chuck???

I'm looking for a set #A327 jaws for a Union 5" chuck.

I don't want to try and true up a set that is sloppy and well used. I also have this info listed on another machinist's forum and they have not given me the info I'm looking for either. I have searched all over the net with no luck. I was hoping one of you had found a source for these.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I defiantly feel a new chuck is in order. If there is that much slop in the jaws then chances are the scroll is in just as bad of shape. Usually when jaws are replaced, they are 2-piece jaws where you are just replacing the outer jaw that holds the work piece but the other half that encounters the scroll is in good shape. I believe the chucks on the Atlas lathes were screw on chucks so you may have to purchase a backing plate also to mount a new plain back chuck. As has been stated, these new chucks and backing plates can be had very economically, probably for not much more than just the jaws if a set could ever be located.

Thank you. I found an extra set of jaws that belonged to another Union chuck and I installed them. I think they are made to hold bored out stock from the inside because they are stepped outward. They were like brand new. I mounted a radial sanding arbor to check out the runout and found it to be 0.001", but it looks like a knuckle buster with the stepping of the jaws getting bigger as you move from the center of the chuck outward. I'll try this for a while. If it doesn't work out, I will buy a new chuck as you recommend.
