I don't know really. Thank's to Ronnie and Tony and House of Champions on Coolidge and 9 mile
it's like the laws of economics suddenly cease to exist in the vicinity of the corner pockets.
Some of the notable players battling it out included Adam Smith, Ronnie, John Binnion, Sergio Perez (Chicago?), Tony Chohan, (1st blind bid-has been in Detroit fo a while now), Richie Richeson. (I think back in Michigan now), Rafael Martinez, and Jerry Slivca.
The final six are Ronnie, Tony C., John B., Richie, Craig, and Sergio Perez.
Some random reports:
I know Tony C is still on the winners side. I think it's either Perez or Craig M. left on the winners side as well but I'm not sure. Maybe they didn't play yet. Anway I'm pretty sure those are the final 6.
Adam lost a match to Tim Heath from OH. Adam then drew Rafael Martinez. Rafael Martinez ran off a couple of quick eight and outs on Adam to take an early 2-0 lead but Adam worked his way back into it taking the next three straight games to send Martinez home with his second loss. Adam would go on to face Wiseman next in the losers bracket for 5th-6th. Martinez was playing well , real well actually. He had just come from a very tough match with Richie R on the winners side before drawing Adam. Both players (Martinez and Richeson) tough played but Richie seems to be able to hang with the best in one pocket. Richie R. would face Tony C in the winners bracket after defeating Martinez.
Wiseman was sent into the losers bracket by Tony C. The marquee match of the night (one of them certainly) went hill hill with Ronnie breaking. Ronnie broke bad and Tony ran off about five real quick and ducked. Ronnie gave a tough fight but Tony would win the match and go on to face Ritchie R on the final four on the winners side. Tony had a real fight with Richie the first couple games but Tony C. made a ball on BOTH of his last two breaks and it was to much for Ritchie to take.
Ronnie went hill hill with Adam on the losers side after Adam dimantled Ronnie in the first two games. It was a very close match, .......Ronnie's cue ball rolling to the edge of the abyss ........will he catch the tit..........will it stop....kind of nailbiter .....but Ronnie pulled it out by a nose. It hurt me just to watch. I know it had to be a tough loss for Adam who was playing well.
I believe local young gun Danny B. got Jerry Slivca early. I think Perez gave Binion his first loss. That match must of gone 2 ? hours at least. Binion next knocked out Tim Heath (Toledo I think) 3-0 in the losers bracket. Heath was put into the losers bracket by local Craig M. who showed plenty of heart and patience in their very loooong match. (could have been three hours.) It was an epic saga in the tradition of Homer but an exciting match if you enjoy one pocket. This guy Tim (from Toledo I believe,) well let me just say that he's not afraid to acting like the biggest a hole he can possibly be at the table. And I mean WORKING hard on it. I have seen some s**t talking abrasive players over the years but few can simply radiate JERK like Tim. Oh, he also emits it in concentrated bursts. Good banker. Still a young player. Maybe he'll grow up some. I get the feeling that most of the local one pocket detectives think he might be a young player to watch out for in the future. They do respect his game some already though if you follow me.

Tim got into action 1 pocket action with local Kim B. late into the morning after the final six were decided. I (five star pick of the night) liked Kim in that matchup AND the rail was open but I just couldn't stay awake any more even after red bull, coffee, and more rest the night before than I usually get.
Tournament action resumes Sunday 23rd at 1:00PM
Lots of talent and knowledge on display if you enjoy the game. I took a few notes. Diagrammed a few shots.
Get out and give the room some business Sunday if you can. You will be treated to a very high level of play.

Eddie
