Unwanted and unneeded coaching

First complaint, I hate playing partners and second complaint, I got stuck with a partner yesterday (8-ball tourney) that threw my game so far off I was seeing red. He plays APA and suggested some seriously flawed shots in their conception. He suggested shots that if missed there was no way to play defense with the end result. I have played against this guy for several weeks and always thought he would be a good partner to have but now I don't believe him to be a competent shot maker. After his attempt at coaching I have little respect for his game. I'm not really asking for advise here, mostly just venting.

Wish I could have flipped the ignore switch on but for some reason it was out of order.

Good Player , Bad Coaches

are prevailent amongst all sports not only pool , I see it happen all the time
from rank amateur to master instructors and professional pool players. most of these guys cant teach you to hit a barn with a bullet but can hit it themselves all day long .

To coach some one who is at a different playing level than yourself IMO
means you yourself have to be able to put yourself on their level to be able to coach them in a way that is not only acceptable to them but also make it easy for them to understand.

Which means more or less that a shot you youself understand and can make everyday nonstop might be incomprehensible to another who just cant see it let alone get it when you coach them. As a Captain/Coach I have teammates I can coach with good results and others that work well only with another coach.

Just flat tell him to stop with the coaching , let him know that you dont like it at all...

Players As Coaches

It is totally out of line to offer any one any kind of coaching or input unless they ask for it. Its happend to me on the golf course and I always say something like..."I've got a coach and he's got me working on some specific stuff so please don't confuse me." That's the nice way - at other times I've said "I am enjoying us playing together but I do not need any instruction."

Also - the great pool players and golfers have historically been poor instructors - they just feel and then execute - they don't analyze.
