The United States Billiard Association has started a room membership program on a pilot basis for one year. We want to see how it works during the year and then decide whether we should continue it or change it. Until now we have only had individual members. But we want to see if having rooms as members will help expand our individual membership numbers and the carom game generally and be beneficial to room owners.
As of now Best Billiards LV in Las Vegas is the only room in this program. But we are open to the possibility of including other rooms in the pilot program, and are also interested in hearing from room owners and others about what they think of this idea. So please let us know your thoughts.
Here is the way the room membership program works. To obtain room membership the room pays to the USBA $300 per anniversary year beginning with the beginning date of membership. That membership amount is to be paid to the USBA prior to the beginning of each year of the room membership. The room member receives a) a commission of $10 for each new full USBA membership for which the room is primarily responsible for generating as determined by the USBA, and b) a $10 commission for each of the next two consecutive years of that new member’s continued full USBA membership,p provided that the USBA decides to continue the Room Membership program for at least two years beyond the one year pilot period and provided that during that period the room continues as a room member within the Room Membership program.
Also, here are a couple of other benefits room owners presently receive from the USBA, whether in this program or not (see this link on the USBA website http://www.usba.net/BRNews-2010TOURPkgs-3-25.asp for more information):
1) If a room holds a USBA Tour Event, it gets deep discounts on Simonis 300 cloth and Aramith carom balls. The USBA also gives the room added money for the event if the room adds money (subject to USBA funds availability).
2) If a room holds a regular sanctioned USBA event, it gets a slight discount on cloth and balls and we add some money for their tournament if the room adds money (subject to USBA funds availability).
