I may have a grip problem as I seem to, sometimes, steer the stroke.
I've read brief blurbs on the net that the V grip is recommended, but I don't
know what it is. Is there help available here?
lee brett describes it in his book
here is something about it from his website http://leebrettpool.com/?page_id=1366
i am not an instructor so i have no comment on its pros or cons

I'm not sure that anyone actually owns the term 'v grip.' I've been using it for over 20 years to describe the position of the grip hand in the follow-through position, with the lower arm directly on top of and nearly horizontal to the cue stick and 'v' between the thumb and second finger clearly evident.
I prefer to stress the grip with the last three fingers as opposed to grabbing with the first two or 3. Seeing that 'v' after you have completed your stroke is one of the signs that I look for to insure that a player is not twisting or manipulating the cue while stroking.
