Vantage conical to straight taper.

I found a classic mcdermott butt with matching rings and a predator vantage shaft for sale.

I am curious if I can have it turned town to a 12 inch straight taper at 12.75" or is this going to ruin the shaft. I know you can turn down a vantage to 12.5 but can you change the actual taper from conical to straight?

IIRC the Vantage has what they call a 'ProV' taper which is kind of a modified pro taper, sort of a conical/pro hybrid. Seyberts would know, contact them.

Why not just get a 314 shaft?
You can sell the vantage shaft, whatever you’d get for it plus what you’d save on the work for turning it down, you’ll be able to fund a 314 shaft

Still be cheaper just to turn it down. $40-50 plus tip. Seyberts does a lot of Pred. shaft mods, shouldn't have any trouble with it. Any good cue mech. can do this.

We don’t know if it’s possible and that it won’t damage the shaft or hurt its playability.
Since there is an option for the specs that he wants in a different shaft, why not just get the correct shaft?
I’m assuming that the shaft is part of the cue for sale, and as both the Vantage and 314-3 cost new about the same. Maybe he can do an exchange later on with someone.
As the shaft is partially hollow, I wouldn’t want to change its taper.
If there is one thing I have learned about shopping is get what you really want, it’ll end costing less than any other route.

Just my opinion.

People re-taper Preds all the time. They play fine.
