Hello to all AZ’ers
I don’t usually post much on AZ, I just prefer to read and absorb all the fantastic info that comes across this site. However, I wanted to share my experience about my recent trip to Vegas for the BCA 8-ball Championships and give credit where it’s due.
Let me say that the experience was incredible. Starting with the flights, I met a gentleman named Dustin that allowed me to watch several recorded matches on his laptop, both flying to LV and returning to O-town. This made 10 hours of flying bearable.
The BCA event and the Predator 10-ball event made for a pool lovers Mecca. My team went 2 matches and out, but we had so much fun competing with the 2 teams and hanging out with them that losing didn’t matter. So from there, I went right to the pro 10-ball event. There were so many great matches, it was almost overwhelming. I had a great experience with all the pros I met, but a few really stood out.
Jay Helfert was refereeing the pro matches and as we were exiting the event one night, I complimented him on his book and even though he was in a hurry, he stopped and spoke with me about his book and the one he has on the way. What a great guy.
Johnny Archer and Cory Deuel were both willing to stop, shake my hand and chat with me. Even after Cory came off a tough loss to Imran Majid, he was still friendly and available to the fans. These guys are great representatives of the game.
The TAR guys were great and put on some great action in the TAR lounge including the ten ahead race between Bartram and Schmidt. I didn’t get to watch the whole match due to my wife wanting to go to some Vegas shows. I contested that the best show in Vegas was in the TAR lounge, but she wasn’t buying it. Oh well, at least I saw some of it.
Finally, the icing on the cake. I didn’t gamble once in Vegas on the pool tables, the slots or the card tables. I did however; purchase a single $10 ticket for a $600 Jack Justis 2x4 Pro-lite case raffle, even though I thought I would never win. Turns out, I did win and Mr. Justis and his wife were so nice, they even offered to let me trade that model in on a different one. I didn’t need to though, because the one that I won was awesome!
The whole event was the experience of a lifetime for me and just reinforced my love of the game and my appreciation for all the people that work so hard to promote this game and lifestyle. Thanks to everyone. I can’t wait until next year.
