Veneers vs. Recut points

Hi. After reading a "discussion" on another thread about veneers vs. recut points, I was wondering what exactly the differences are between the two, especially in how they are constructed. As a rookie, I can't tell the difference between the two, with the possible exception of thickness. Unless I'm wrong and recut points can be done very thin, I'm assuming that veneers can be done much thinner than recut points. Am I correct, or am I just an ignorant newbie? :)

Just want to learn something new.

Veneered points will have a seam at the tip of the point. With the darker color veneers the seam isn't always visible though. Recut points will not have a seam. They are made from one solid piece of wood.

Recut points can be done as thin as your machinery or setup will allow (or your nerves, whichever fails first). The veneer on points will only be as thin as the veneers that are available, usually .6mm to .9mm in thickness.

Do a google or yahoo search for veneered points or recut points. There's a few sites out there that show how it's done.

I do recuts. Have done different "thickness" - I have one forearm that is not complete - one of the holly recuts is about .010 that is 1/100 of an inch - had to see how small I could get it!!!
