Video from a certain forum member playing pool

I played a guy from China when I was in college at the student union and his sharking technique is pretty good. I guess they like to stand next to the table when you're shooting. Just like in the video. This guy took it to another level and would stand in front of my line of vision with his back turned while chalking his stick.

So not only is he in my line of vision but he's has his back turned and doing something. So you can't help but look to see what he's doing while also trying to shoot the ball. LOL

Their sharking is harmless and its like part of the game. He would get his ass kicked if it was in a pool hall. LOL

These types of videos are incredibly popular on Douyin, some of them are utterly hilarious. There's fake cash games, teams games, couples playing. There's many skits relating to billiards. My favorite are two guys who dress up like they are from ancient China, and use several props and tricks while shit talking each other.

Very uncharacteristic of the Chinese attitude toward billiards to be honest. 99% of people who play seriously here treat it almost too seriously (in my experience). If they are sitting at the chair end of the table, they have moved out of your line before you even acknowledged that was the shot you wanted to play lol There is only one older dude with an enormous ego where this isn't the case. He is the singing, dancing, jolly type when things going his way, the chalk slamming, nose picking, cue slammed back in the case type when it isn't (which is usually the case to everyones amusement).

Some general musings on my experiences playing here in an international city - most europeans have been pretty respectful, similar to the Chinese attitude... except for people from England, who have been quite underhand and devious. Americans love a shark, but it's incredibly obvious and generally playful (they get a bit funny when you ask them to stop). Two or three Russian dudes are just so incredibly slow (but my sample size for matches is much lower than Americans, central europeans etc). Filipine friends treat everything like it's a bit of fun, then you remember your funds are getting smaller and smaller, then they know that you know what's happening and things tighten up a little and get more competitive.

I am quite surprised that you experienced that if you were playing seriously or for some cash money.
