This is the most convenient free standing cue holder design I've seen yet. You can pull out a cue in a second flat, or less if you're fast. Not sure of the age, but it seems like possibly 30+ years old... but you wouldn't know it by the design and how solid and sturdy this guy is.
Stands under 3 feet tall and takes up about one square foot of floor space. Has a couple cracks, but not loose anywhere and should last for many, many years.
