Perhaps my experience was different since I had an in from knowing Jude, sjm, etc. from the forum, and I know guys like Tony Robles and Flaco, but I had a great time at ABC from the time I walked in the door. As in most poolrooms, one is accorded status, to some extent, on the basis of whether one is a "player" or not, but that is certainly not exclusive to Amsterdam.
I've been in NYC for a bit over 2 1/2 weeks, and in all the pool rooms that I've been to, from the Cue Lounge up in the Bronx all the way down to Skyline Billiards in Brooklyn, I've gotten a warm reception, and it's been a bit like a reunion as there are always a bunch of old acquaintances and familiar faces.
BTW, meeting fellow AZB'ers up here has been a blast! I enjoyed two nice sets with sjm, hobnobbed with Jude, and met TheOne, John Schmidt and countless others. A couple nights ago I was hitting some balls at Masters with Jason Hunt from Buffalo and who walks in and starts hitting balls on the next table? Jose Parica and Dennis Orcullo! They were both very nice and accomodating (particularly Dennis), and I'll post pics when I get around to downloading the pics from my phone.
In a nutshell, NYC is a tough place to make money playing pool, but it's still a pretty decent pool town!
