WARNING: Mottey cue on ebay!!!

Just giving everyone a heads up on this auction. I am unsure of it being a scam but a few things point to it being the case. If it is not, I unreservedly apologise to the seller. Seen too many people go down with scam deals to ignore this one though......

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=21212&item=7168215335&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

My Evidence......

1) These pictures of this particular Mottey were used in 2 previous scam auctions.

2) Why do a 1 day auction on such an expensive cue?

3) He lives in England (where I live) apparently, in a town 2 miles from my home. I am pretty sure I would know of this person and this cue if it was in my town. I am the ONLY person in West Yorkshire that makes these purchases and people come to me to buy one if they do. This is a fact.

I have bid on the cue and told the seller if I win, I will pass by his place and pay cash. It seems to me this seller has had his account hacked and his password stolen. Previous sellers with hacked accounts have told me they are abroad and need the money sending to Japan or the U.S. Yeah, right!!!!

He is selling a Cognoscenti too. Most of these cues come from one source over here in England.....me.

Just giving everyone the facts before a potential mistake is made. I hope I am wrong but I don't think I am. I will report back later.

This cue and auction I believe to be legit. My buddy, The Mole, showed me this cue his mate in England had. He also lives in England. He was trying to trade him his Wayne for it, but he wouldn't do it. I am pretty sure this cue is indeed in England and this auction is legit...this is the exact same Mottey he showed me.

So...maybe you aren't the only big wig cue collector Mr. TheDiamond...*wink*...just kidding.

Shorty

the diamond,
I'm just curious about something you said. If you think the auction is a fraud, why would you bid? I'm not asking to be rude,I'm just not all that familiar with ebay

There's a cog for sale by the same guy too. Personally I distrust 1 day auctions. They just seem shadey.

I agree with Simon and I also think this auction is a fraud. I saw the listing and I was suspicious so I checked the seller's feedback and he supposedly just sold a Tim Scruggs cue July 4 to coincidently another gentleman in England. The Tim Scruggs auction had pictures directly off of Proficient Billiards web site under Fancy Tim Scruggs cues. I've seen that Scryggs cue and pictures on ebay before and I remembered the pictures. I think Simon would surely know of a pool player or cue collector who lived 2 miles from him with cues that nice and I think it's a setup to catch an unsuspecting buyer who might send his money to England to pay for a cue and not receive a thing in return. If i'm wrong I would also like to apologize to the seller of the Mottey cue. Why in the world would you list a nice Paul Mottey cue on ebay for only 1 day and not give many other potential bidders a chance to see the cue. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Hi Shorty

Matt is obviously a very close friend of mine. You probably know this. We have done many, many cue deals. The last auction that me and Matty tracked with this cue was indeed a scam. We thought as much. Thats why I am cautious this time.

I have bid to try and protect people. I am not trying to pick up a bargain and dissuade potential buyers, just warning people.

I have told the seller my terms. I go round, view the cue in person and pay cash if I win. I need to see the cue before I part with money. Thats the only way.

I will go as far to say if this auction is genuine and I do buy it for a reasonable price, I will sell it on AZbilliards for what I paid for it......just so you guys know I am not trying to get a nice Mottey for a cheap price. A lot of you guys know me out there and know my reputation. I am most definately for real......I don't think this auction is.

One other thing........The guy who won the Scruggs from this seller, has one positive feedback comment....ie: he had non when he bid, until this seller gave him a positive......it stinks of scamming!!!

No diamond, I had no clue you knew my mate Matt. Ask him how he likes his new Whitten by the way? I am sorry, but I thought this was the cue Matt wanted to trade around with her about a month ago. He showed me pictures I know of it. Wasn't this the same Mottey he wanted to trade a Wayne for?

Shorty

Hi Shorty

He loves the Whitten, wish I had it though :D

This is the same cue, it was also featured on Cue auctions. It belongs to someone, just don't know who!!

Cue was traded at the derby to Don at Shureman cues(Great guy!)

Though i haven't met Simon (the diamond) yet i can assure that he is the real deal. He's the main man when it comes to custom cues in the U.K.

This is wild!
The scruggs photos are mine also and scott sherbine refinished the cue also and a guy bought it on his website after the deby! Ask Scott

Thank you, Deep.

I think we have established its a scam. Well done vigilant AZers.

Charley.....I had the same problem as you, I saw an auction I had posted a month previously of one of my Franklin Southwests. All my photos and description. This happened also with one of my Jensen cues. It is becoming more and more common on ebay.

Don't forget to look out for each other.....if you have an idea a scam going down....post it up here. Please try and make sure you have substantial proof before you do though.

Haven't posted here yet, but found this forum always to be a valuable source of information. If I hadn't read this post I most certainly would have bid for this beauty. Thank you, folks.

Hi Chris

I see you are selling the Justis you bought from me. Now that is a NICE case. I don't really know why I sold it!!! Might have a dabble on your auction myself!

Si

Simon.. etal ..
Just for your 'gee whiz' folder.. the Mottey in question belongs to
Mr. William Grassley of Cornerstone. This should officially solve the mystery.
Note: Simon.. email to you shortly. Brett

The cog this joker was trying to sell on Ebay is currently on auction at cueauctions (proficient) right now, so as far as I can tell, it's still in Scotts possesion. The listing in Ebay used not only the pics from cueauctions, but also the exact same description word for word. You would think these guys could be a little more creative!! Not only did this guy expose himself (quite easily) as being a crook, but he's also managed to announce to cue enthusiasts worldwide just how incredibly stupid he is. This cue has been on auction for months as I, and I'm sure every other cue maniac has seen this cue probably hundreds of times wishing that it was a little more affordable. Wether you want it or not, this cue has at the very least been seen by every serious cue dealer/enthusiast on the net. To try to sell this cue tells me that this guy has no brains, or has balls the size basketballs!!
