i just bought a 15 year old cue and i the butt has a small roll in it towards the joint. now the pin and the shaft are straight. the butt is a little bigger in diameter compared to some cues that are being made today, and i would like to have it trimmed down or retappered. i was wondering if that would fix the problem and make the cue straight again? i would appreciate your professional imput, thanks.

How well does it roll when screwed together? If it is tolerable, leave it alone. A small amount of warp in the butt will not affect your play as long as your shaft is straight.

I agree wholeheartedly. A little warp in a cue, butt or shaft, has little affect on the cues playability. The only time it hurts is when you try to sell it as that is the first thing everyone looks at but usually the only thing anyone checks for straightness is the shaft.

The trouble with turning a butt down trying to eliminate a warp is that although the butt is oversize, usually the joint area is actually smaller than today's cues. To have much of an effect in the prong area, the butt would usually need to be offset quite a bit.

thanks for the input guys. the warp doesn't bother me that much. i really just want a smaller butt. i was just trying to kill two birds with one stone. do any of you guys wanna give me a price to do the job? please pm me. thanks

the warp could be in the handle area. if it is, you could replace the handle and then taper the cue the wat you want. if it's in the forearm you may be sol. you should send it to a reputable maker to have them see where the warp is then decide what to do.

How do you tell where the warp is? What is the method used to determine this? Thanks.

Gene

PS I just saw a custom cue and I can't tell if the warp is in the handle or not. This question may also help the orignal poster.

i cant really tell where the warp is. all i know is that when i roll the cue on my pool table, the joint lifts up along with about two inched of the forearm.
