Wavy Joint and Radial Pin

Hello cuemakers :)

My serious question: I have a cue with a Radial-Pin. So 2 weeks ago i had a student with me, and he gave me his shaft to try-out. My shafts are fitting very well-and it takes a *bit* harder to close it finally (joint).
So i put on his shaft on my butt-and it really felt the same way. After i gave him the shaft back, i saw that this was a mezz shaft with a wavy joint.

His shaft (mezz wavy) fits to my butt (radial pin). But my radial shafts wouldn t fit to his wavy pin.

COULD i use the shaft with wavy joint on my but? or would i damage the shaft for sure?

thx in advance--

Both threads in the shafts got screwed up!:grin-square:

You shouldn't have done that in the first place.

Well,

when he gave me the first time the shaft- i thought it is a radial, too. But how i said. While screwing it together, it felt exactly the same way. So my question now is really, if there would be a problem to use *such* a shaft with wavy on a radial but, or if this really would destroy the shaft.

STudent wants to know also :)

Both radial and wavy have different thread count per inch. Wavy I believe has thread count in between radial and 3/8-10.

The reason your Radial shafts screw onto your Radial pin very tightly is most likely because the shafts were tapped with the undersized Radial tap to specifically create a tight joint.

The reason the Wavy shaft screwed onto your Radial pin with difficulty is because your Radial pin was basically cutting new threads in the shaft. Now the Wavy shaft has both Wavy threads and Radial threads co-mingled. It's probably ok since it only happened the one time.

To answer your question: Yes, it will eventually destroy the tapped hole in the shaft.
