Recently I purchased some bocote that is not dried and fully sealed in wax, usually I buy everything kiln dried but this wood has the most incredible figure I have seen. How long should I wait to scrape off the wax and how long until it's ready to turn? Thanks in advance

well. i let it sit a month then scrape the wax sides and leave it on the ends. if you dont have a moisture meter it has to sit a long time. i let wood sit well over a year then turn slowly over about 6 months. i like kiln dried also almost never buy wood that isnt. if you core this all changes

Do you have a moisture meter? If not, get one. They take a lot of the guess work away. You can scrape off the wax from the sides, but leave the ends sealed. I have a piece of marblewood I just realized I still had. It is still in wax and I have had it almost 2.5 years. It was 14% then, and it is now only down to 7%. The wax is coming off today, going round then sealing the ends again. One thing for sure, don't rush it. you don't want it to crack or check. If it's a great piece, it will be worth the wait.
