ways to quiet down ball return

Hey guys,
I live in a townhome and I bought a Valley table yesterday. The ball return seems really loud and I don't want to make the neighbors too mad. Does anyone know of a good way to make it quieter?
I was thinking of lining the return with some felt or something. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Andy

1/4" rubberized carpet backing quieted down the balls dropping on my table. I tried 1/2" but found that balls then fell out of the box. If your box is deeper than on a Gold Crown III then thicker carpet padding might work.

I have delt with also

It is a problem....cant play when you want tro due to the noise...what I did is cured the echo...I filled the inside of the table with insulation...it helped 90 percent of the noise and the wife could sleep and not hear me hitting balls

Thanks for the ideas. heading out now to look for some carpet backing. I'll try the insulation also.
Thanks

So I'm curious did you use fiberglass or styrofoam and how did you attach it on the inside, or did you just stack it in loose?

I glued used table felt on the tracks on a valley once. It did help quite a bit with the noise, but a ball would get stuck every so often.

I have a Valley 8ft BlackCat and was thinking of the same thing.

I think any thin fabric on the plastic channels will help, and something thicker on the wooden parts after the plastic channel. Just make sure there are no wrinkles, because balls get stuck sometimes even without fabric.

You have to remove the rail bumpers and the slate to get in there, don't you?
