I've always used West System 207 for sealing cues. It always had an amber tint to it. I just picked some up this week and had to double check when I mixed it because it was so clear. The new stuff has no amber tint at all to it and is super clear. Has anyone else noticed this?

I don't use it much so I couldn't say for sure but I would comment that the new stuff you just got may be a much fresher batch. They stated on there site in the questions and answers once that said that there epoxy never goes bad with age but that the hardener does darken with age. It said that it doesn't affect the epoxies strength but it does affect the looks.

Dick, I checked on Jamestown Distributors and the formula was changed. Huge improvement for cuemakers. Even the leftover expoy that hardened was very clear.

Yes, they changed the formula and added some UV inhibitor. So it is supposed to be resistant to yellowing just like Auto clears now. It still has reactions to some wood surfaces, so make sure it is compatible before rubbing it all over your cue. It can turn some surfaces yellow or green.

Chris, I've never has a problem with any of the woods I've used it on turning yellow or green. Is this something new? Cure time seems close to the old formula and sands the same.

It is not a new thing, but a very old one. It is strange in that one piece of Purple Heart for instance will have no problem and another one turn green. That is with the old formula. With the new formula the only thing I have seen so far is some weird yellow spots coming up on white maple.
