What do you guys think of this estimate?

I got the following estimate on my GC3. What do you guys think?

Assemble table - $600
Recover (including rails) with Simonis 860 - $800
New k55 rubber installed - $650
Cut rail liners to proper angle for new rubber (not sure what this is) - $150
Close pockets to my spec - $250
Replace chrome rail trim (I provide the trim) - $100

I haven't worked with a table mechanic so not sure if these prices are inline.

The price seems reasonable to me. But of course the most important part is the actual quality of the work. The cost will be too high if you're getting it redone one year later.

Yup. Go to your local pool room and find out who they use (this way you can see and play on what they've done). There's a lot of hacks out there. Pay for someone good.

The price for the recover seems high if the table is disassembled and you're paying for assembly anyway (they're double dipping). I believe the Simonis 860 is about $350.

seems fine to me but the recover cost, unless simonis has gone sky high since i last bought it, which it may have

assemble and recover cloth should be one price imo,
with the cost of the cloth added in
1400 seems a tad high but it is alot of work for the table

seems assemble and recover is too high. but 2500 seems also too high for the total. they will be two guys in and out in five hours.

It costs $475 to recover my table with Simonis 860HR.

I just had my table disassembled, moved to another room, moved back on another day and reassembled (for room paint and new carpet) for $375 total.

It generally seems high.

Seems high to me but every time I move a table (which has not been too many times) I've always helped to disassembled, move and reassemble. I haven't recovered a table in years but I just checked and the cloth casts less than $300. I have no clue how much rubber should cost. One the menu items for cut rail liners and close pockets should be included IMO. Never heard of replacing the rail trim?

I'm not much help but I'm skeptical. Maybe shop around?

Way too high.

Lost of repetitive task here and they should be discounting you for the total.

That set of prices feels like a bunch of individual prices if you were on having that one thing done.
That's exactly how I feel.

Yeah replacing the rail trim is replacing the silver trim on the edge of the GC3 rails. $100 is not too bad as I hear they are a bear to get out.

Don't have experience with most of these items but your 2nd and 3rd list items I do, including:

- 3 league Valley 8 footers done in western Washington (near Seattle) with new K55 rails, re-felt including Simonis 860 was just over $1000 per table out the door just over a year ago, including reducing the rail pocket width a little and leveling. cannot remember if new plastic pockets were included.
- Global 8 footer in western Washington (near Seattle) re-felted including Simonis 860 was $500, including leveling (table was quite level before). no new plastic pockets.

I think both of these are quite good deals, the 2nd one being surprisingly good. And the company that did the second job (Clark Billiard Services) either had a 90 mile drive from their location or a 60 mile drive including ferry fees and wait times. They did an excellent job, and again, included the price for new Simonis 860 felt and installation (like the first job, which is not by done by Clark).

So, in a nutshell, I think your estimate is way too high, especially given the cost of living in the Seattle area, which is usually only second to California (SF Bay Area and LA area) and east coast cost of living...

You talking about the aluminum extruded rail trim that runs around the edge of the rails and dead ends into the pocket castings?

I'm in Nova Scotia Canada so prices will vary from the USA. I bought a used 9ft and the mechanic and helper brought the table and assembled it. The $700 CAD included distance, Aramith tournament balls, wood triangle, wall cue rack, 4 one piece house cues and a rake. I thought it was pretty fair and I'll use him again when it's time for new cloth.

Yes, I've purchased new trim from classic billiards.net. $100 seemed like a deal to have it installed.

They must really be dinged up pretty bad. When I did my GC1/2 I had them polished and re-anodized. Then I had the pocket castings polished and plated with electroless nickel. And the feet and other metal parts chromed. But I got lucky because all my polishing and plating work was done for free since I'm a customer of a plating company. I actually insisted on paying but Cesare refused to take my money. So I got real lucky on that.

Price is going to depend on location. For an apples to apples comparison, y'all need to provide your location for what you're being quoted and what you've paid. For example, California and Kentucky will have different rates.

For "Close pockets to my spec - $250" what exactly are they doing here to tighten the pockets?

Who are you getting your quote from?

I'm in SoCal. My mechanic charges $800 for a recover with Simonis 860 (9' GCI) so assembly and recover for $1,600 is a little on the high side. I would expect $1,300-$1,400.

I paid $1,500 for subrail modification, subrail extensions, pockets cut to my specs and new Diamond Black K55 rubber. A GCIII doesn't need subrail modification but does need subrail extensions to tighten the pockets correctly so $1,050 to do your rail work doesn't seem out of bounds What rubber he is using? As for the rail trim, I would remind him it is a GCIII and the trim is nailed in and not screwed in; $100 sounds a little cheap.

Always learn something from you. I did not know the trim is nailed on a 3. BTW - who did your rail work?
