Here we are all of us. AZ Billiards Forums, the stomping grounds of some of the more colorful characters that the world of pool and billiards has to offer.
But what does it mean. As different or as similar as we all are in our pursuits whether it be the glory of winning a championship someday, the business of selling and buying cues and accessories, what is that one uniting factor we have in common. Or more importantly what does it mean to you. The game, the life, this forum for instance any of it.
I remember when i first started playing, my local pool room was a place of wonder to me. Guys with so much arrogance and swagger it was a wonder their heads could fit through the double doors. It was in the way they moved, acted, spoke, gambled, and played. If you notice the playing aspect was the last thing on that list. My local room, home to some of the more knowledgeable figures like our house men. Always friendly always up for a game. What have they become? Where have they gone?
I guess my biggest question is where is the purity in our game. Now i do not claim to be a saint in the least as my last endeavour on here was to call out a former comrade to a game and for what pride, money, and for what because of a few spoken words? Now perhaps this is a dollar short and a day late. But in all honesty folks where is the purity.
In my neck of the woods when i was coming up in the pool room we were the new generation the wide eyed and eager to learn. Where is todays new generation and what are they learning? To hustle, to shark?
Has pool been long forgotten in the new generation? I have heard stories of people even using webkins pool tables to get their kids interested and in all honesty I dont blame them.
There are people out there making millions of dollars playing golf baseball, and of course poker to name a few. Why in gods name would someone want to train and become disciplined to learn our sport.
What you are reading may seem jumbled or to not have a point. But believe me there is one.
The point is that to each one of us this game means something and like i said earlier maybe its the glory of the win, maybe its the money or the social aspect for you league players. But what has our game come to? What does it mean to you?
