reyes plays with a $50 cue. no inlays, no nothing. honestly, i dunno the price, but it looks like $50. my point? if your good, why play with a $2000 cue? like most pros? answer, vanity!

Silencer, are you asking about the guy "who no longer has it?" You know the guy you said was over the hill. I'm not sure that we will see the time that he is no longer a factor as he will probably hang it up when he feels that way. He is amazing and a real role model for the sport.

...
At the Derby City this year, Efren's shaft did not appear to match the butt of his cue -- it looked more like a Schon style collar that definitely did not match the butt collar in design -- but he sure was comfortable with it!!! :) :)

He has several cues and the last one I saw him play with that had a mismatched shaft was a plain Southwest.

The one at the Derby was a mismatch, but he said it was a Judd. You can see a picture of it in the March Inside Pool mag. I was at the table right after the finals when the pictures were taken. It is the cue he was shooting with.

corrections if i may?

i don't want to sound like i'm mr. know it all jsut to be clear okay guys? efren shoots with a Judd Jt1 not 20 oz. but 21 oz. ,60 inches, that is efren's standard weight even with his other cues. he prefers wrapless coz he has the slip grip stroke. he uses brunswick hard tips not tiger. efren prefers non-layered tips because he likes it that way because his been playing with non layered tips way back even before those layered tips were invented. he sometimes uses blue diamond or elk masters original tips. since these two are the favorites of most old school filipino players. aircon or non airconditioned room these tips have been proven to work very well. i had the luxury of meeting the man in person because i'm a filipino too (duh!) and had been in most of his matches here locally. money games or tourneys what have you. i also had the chance to shoot a few racks with his judd when he was here a month ago in my area. i even bought a couple of tips from a box of brunswick hards that efren gave a close friend of his that installs my tips and retapers my shaft. his judd are two kinds. one is the most he shoots with which has the cocobolo handle and the other is the same but with a ebony handle i think(i haven't seen that one closely or shot with it). thae mismatched shaft he uses is either teh shaft from the said JT1 with the black handle or it can be the shaft he got from Linds(very popular cuemaker also here in the philippines, i think josephcues ahs one of linds cue that he bought from efren himself with the nail polish autograph(have to check again) back to the man, very nice fellow to hang around with. you can talk anything even without mentioning pool. you can talk with him more and with his enthusiasm over a cup of native brewed coffee, his favorite over converstaions. i guess that's one advantage of being a filipino in my opinion, you get to see,try and feel the stuff he uses not just by reading and sometimes misinformations. jsut my personal experience no offense guys!

why would he do that?

The mismatched shaft is a Judd. Judd made him an ebony cue with silver inlays. The shaft had a black collar and silver checks. Efren shoots with it b/c he thinks the black color is good luck. So, a cue must have a black color in it somehow.
He doesn't play with the fance Judd anymore. He just likes the plain one.
Believe me. Efren told me and my friend why he uses that black collared shaft. We were surprised how a world champion can be that superstitious.

efren's gear(my humble experience)

I do have the Linds cue. He signed it with a gold felt pen though, not nail polish. :D
Efren had Al Romero change his tip one time last year. He kept pressed Eld Masters in his case.

For the record. Reyes Judd cue weight is not 21 ounces its 20 ounces now. The old cue weight he use is 21 ounces. Also the length is 59" and not 60" now.

The tip he uses is Elkmaster and has a 12.5 mm tip diameter.

You can ask Judd cues and theyll tell you the specs they made for Efren's cue.

His shaft was made by JUdd not made from the Philippines. Yeah JosephCues is right about the black collar. Reyes hs that superstitious beliefs.

I don't know what you are referring to. Efren was being interviewed by JR and JR was taking pictures and I was standing there waiting for JR to finish to ask him (JR) something. I was working the InsidePool booth at the DCC.
