What happened at Kickshot Billiards last night?

After being over there two late (for me) nights in a row, I decided to come home early last night. There were supposed to be a couple of interesting match ups last night including Monster John playing one-pocket with Chris Bartrum for a few beans and Larry Price might have arrived to match up with either Shannon Murpny or Tommy D' Alfonso. So I'm curious about what went down and wonder if anyone out there has the news? Thanks in advance for any info.

If there's no bucktooth or cornfed then I'm not interested

Or for some of us, if there IS a bucktooth or cornfed, then there is no interest.

Guess I'll just have to drive over and get the latest. I hope our local guys had a winner or two last night as the general flow of cash lately has been away from the local players/bettors.

Well put Bill. I left last night at 1:00 A.M. and Chris and John were even in a set of 7 ahead 1-hole for 5,000 that had started at 6:00 P.M. Larry Price came in around 12:30 A.M. but at the time Shannon Murphy was in action with another player giving up the 5 and last 4.

they were playing very cheap like ten a game and shannon won about 10 games. This wasn't as tough as it sounded as the guy missed with ball in hand a few times. I stayed till about 6 am and when i left larry was playing mike leak giving the 7 and last three ( which is stealing) and the reason Shannon and larry weren' t playing was because shannon and his contingent wanted to rack your own or have (me) a neutral racker rack the balls as both Larry and Shannon know me and Larry wanted to only play loser racks.

The game Larry was getting ready to play had not even started yet and this was at about 5.30 am.

Monster John and CB had originally agreed to quit at 3 am and prorate but they were even and then both agreed to quit at 10am and pro rate and when i left monster john was up 3 and was starting to get in a gear and run alot of balls

Monster John got up 5 games but at 10:00 A.M. He was only up 1 game. I was hoping that they would be back Sat night but a 10:00 P.M. neither one was there yet. Larry Price and "Shorty", Tom Alfonse were playing at the time. I don't know what happened, in fact, that's why I just checked this thread.

Dick, I heard that after several disagreements about racking the balls, Tommy finally just quit. Tommy was four games up at the time. All this is second-hand, so you may want to talk to someone who was actually there.

Ok!

This is what happened according to LP's stakehorse. Tom got larry to either the hill or 8 games ahead for an undisclosed amount of cash(quite a bit I'll tell you that) and LP brought Tom back down to 1 game ahead. LP was breaking and ask for a rerack and Tom refused. He was really disgusted that he couldn't take down the cheese especially after the 10K he lost to CB i guess and acted like a jackass. So they quit after Tom refused to rack and play and begging LP's stakehorse to quit saying" Larry can't beat me why don't we just quit." And LP's backer told him to keep playing they would chance it. But Tom refused.

So after Tom and his backers lost their nuts LP played Shannon Murphy some for 2500 and Shannon lost after about 5 hours.

Bill, I got to say that it is pretty sad to beg for action on the internet and get 2 quality players show up. Tom was gracious to CB but not to LP from what I have been told. I know that this is not your fault but a guy can lose a LOT of action if he decides to pull up after the game has started. Lost all respect from me.

Gary, I don't recall anyone "begging" for action, but I guess that is open to interpretation. The version of the events I got today differs markedly from the version you got. I myself witnessed them playing several games after about an hour an a half of stand-off when Tommy wouldn't re-rack the balls, so the version you heard where they quit right then is incorrect. I left with Tommy about 3 games up and today heard from several people who were there (including Tommy), that Tommy and Larry finally agreed to play "rack your own." The game broke down when, after Tommy had racked the balls, Larry called for a re-rack. Which, as you know, is not how you play "rack your own." Anyway, since neither of us were there, it would be way out of line to start calling names and assigning blame, all based on second-hand information. As I understand it, they finally pulled down the money that was posted and offed the whole thing. I'm sure both sides had many nasty things to say about the other side, but it would be pointless for me to try to replay any of that in this post. Next time you are in the area, stop by and I'll be happy to buy you a beer.

Bill,
you are right we neither one were there. But I do not understand why LP would ask for a rerack after they had decided to 'rack your own'. That would classify someone as certifiable wouldn't it? But hey, no argument here. I will be there when you least expect it.

who?

I know Tommy A. is a action player and he even rode with me and a friend of mine to a tournament three years ago. But every match I have seen him play for a good chunk of change he has lost! Hennessee beat him 10 ahead in about 40 minutes in Knoxville playing even(7,000 jellybeans). Tony Crosby gave him the 8 and beat him in a few hours.( 4,000 jellybeans) I'm not trying to put him down I was just wondering if anyone has any good action stories about him with a happy ending?

Here's one, but it goes back to 2003. In the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour Stop 6 November 1 - 2, 2003 at the Ultimate Billiards Club in Berlin, CT, Tommy, coming from the loser's side, was about to play Santos Sambajon in the finals. Santos offered Tommy 2 to 1 on the money that he (Tommy) would not get to 8 games in the race to 9. The bet was $4,000 to $2,000. Tommy won the set 9 to 2 and went on to win the next set of the double-elimination tournament to capture first place. More recently, Tommy beat John Brumback (a few weeks ago) for $2,500 in a 10 ahead match. Not trying to kill his action here, but he has won a dime or two here and there.
