What happens when breaking in 9 ball and a miscue occurs?

O my arm!

When I'm gambling and my opponent miscues on the break I have them "try again" . If it happens too much I'll tell them to use a house cue instead of their phonelic tipped p.o.s. One pocket I let them rebreak too. Most of the time in an effort to not miscue they hit the CB full and blow the break wide open anyway.;)
If I miscue I'll generally fake an injury ala Dangerfield in Caddyshack and let them decide the course of action. Granted my stakes are usually less than considerable. I'm not sure what the house rules are.

I Bet You Thought I'd Forgotten About It

Stalev wanted the cueball and was going to shoot the safety shown in the diagram above. John wouldn't give up the cueball. Stalev's blonde haired Russian running buddy wanted to take down the 'up money' and leave (to catch their plane). Stalev was cursing his 'buddy' in Russian AND English. LOL

Ricky Byrd (John's backer & roomowner) wanted John to re-break and stated flatly that it was NOT a foul and Stalev didn't get b.i.h. and 37 Bubba's agreed... I took the Russian's side and 'they' didn't like that (let them eat cake..... and chitlins) :)

If I remember correctly, Ricky Byrd offered an APA Rule Book to The Russian and John re-shot the breakshot..... and the Russian ended up with the cheeeeese.

( I'm going to look up my original post when I'm out of this poker tournament )

*Chitlins ... Let us consider what chitlins are - they are hog intestines or guts and southerners LOVE them...

Edited to add: I thought that Google groups had everything archived, but was unable to find my original post. I'm going to PM John Schmidt and see how he remembers it..

I re-visit this thread with info from John Schmidt's reply to my PM.
John said (and I agree) that even though the rule in some tournaments allow for b.i.h. for ANY foul on the break, that isn't usually played that way when gambling. He and Stalev hadn't addressed that happening prior to the start of their match. John said that he thinks that they are both gentlemen and was surprised at The Russian calling that lame foul.

At the point the foul was called by Stalev, he (Stalev) was down 6 games in the race to 10 ahead and John thought that it was more a stalling tactic.

When I PM'ed him again about the outcome, he wrote me back with this (I hope that he doesn't mind my posting part of his PM), "we played ten ahead for 13 hours and broke even.then we raced to 21 for all the money.i played terrible and lost 21-11.i was tired as hell at the end and he seemed like he just woke up it was weird.later gater "

I was there and sweated the entire match. It was quite enjoyable to watch these two great players facing off.
