Anybody have a clue as to what this gray material is ??? Or better yet WHERE to get any ?? This is on a Meucci cue with a red dot shaft. Got a customer that wants a plain old fashioned maple shaft but wants a matching collar. I've attached a pic of the joint and also the butt cap since its the same color/material. Any input on where to get some would be greatly appreciated.

PVC??? Looks like something from Home Depot:D

LOL.... I wouldn't doubt it with a Meucci Kenny.

Also.... I hope you got my return PM on calling you. I swear I haven't forgot and I promise I'm gonna call you. This new job has me traveling A LOT. Leaving early and getting home extremely late. I DO have tomorrow off if you're free tomorrow.

I would assume it is the same plastic as on all Meucci cues but in grey. The owner wants an exact match and that is going to be hard. Because of the way the joint screws together if the material you get does not match perfectly it is going to look bad and miss matched. You would be better off trying to talk the guy into letting you make him an extra shaft with a nice black collar and leave it at that.

It will actually look fine and I am sure he will be happy. For sure happier then a joint that looks like there is something wrong with it because the colors don't match. You may send it to Meucci and not get an exact match. Unless you can be sure it will come out perfectly I would turn the job down. I had a bunch of cues like that once, I believe they were called "Meucci 200 series". They had some weird colors in them. Below is a picture of that series from my files. The brochure says 1993.

I thought that was a plain old fashioned maple shaft, just has a red dot on it

Chuck,

I was always under the impression and just assumed that the red dot and black dot Meucci shafts were LD shafts. I could VERY easily be wrong. Either way my buddy wants another shaft so he'll have two shafts.

And yes....... I know what happens when I "assume",LOL. ;)

Mac..... It looks exactly like the same material and color as that bottom cue in your pic, the 200-5.

Most Meucci's that I have seen, you can put two cues from the same model next to one another and they won't match up exactly. They have collars that are difficult to match to aftermarket shafts. And the colors fade in just a few years. This makes it difficult for any repairs and just easier (and cheaper) to ditch and buy a new one to last for 5, or so, more years. Personally, I believe that it's a business model. And it's worked for him for decades.

I know Meucci shaft with red or black dot are for sweet spot hit. Meucci have that sweet spot line up from factory. Which is everytime before you hit the cue ball line up the spot "ON TOP". I could be wrong.

The black dot is a flat laminate shaft and the red dot is a regular shaft.

I have the material but it is already built into a ring pack with a red ring instead of the black ring, like yours. It may take a little work but you could carefully cut the rings apart and make use of the grey material.

Yes. But black dot is laminated shaft while red dot is regular. On black dot the dot idicates the top of the spline. However, on the red dot it idicates the sweet spot. Either way the dot should always face up while shooting.
