I am a brand new member & would apriciate all replies.I bougt a Brunswick
(Revere) 4 by 8 table about 22 yrs ago for $500 it was like new.I put the
table in the basement which is cool keep dehumidifier going non-stop this
table always seemed slow but seems slower now.I replaced cloth a few years ago myself ,(not much expirience) don't even know what kind I put on.My
questions are--What new Brunswick would this table compare to price wise
& quality?Do you think it would be worth putting money into to try to make it
better/faster?I am retired and now have time to play more & have a little
money to spend to upgrade just dont know which way to go .I just feel like
playing again never was a ace but used to be hard to beat & made a few
bucks .What would this table be worth now?

I always have a fear of responding to this topics, as i read and try to keep myself informed on everything ot do with pool, because if someone disagrees I'll see 10 pages of people flaming me. I am NOT a pool table mechanic, and i don't do my own work i hire a mechanic. There, hope i covered all my bases. Now on with the INFO!! If you don't know what type of cloth you put on your table it is probably just the cheap stuff that comes standard with most tables. This type of cloth has a fairly low wool content and wears out quickly and it actually starts off fast and gets slower as you use it. Simonis, or basicly any of the worsted cloth out there, is a much higher grade cloth with a higher wool content. Instead of bumbling along in my poor grammar READ THIS: http://www.fastlarrypool.com/asklarry/tablecloth.htm.
(Fast Larry haters out there i did a search for 'wool content pool table cloth' and this was the page that came up)

Another thing that could happen with a table that old is DEAD RAILS SYNDROME, easy to cure but often overlooked. Over time the rubber will wear out and wont produce quite the 'Bounce' it used to. You can get the rail rubber here: http://www.seyberts.com/table_accessories/parts/rail_rubbers/

Also if you decide to go with simonis cloth or decide to change the rails, pay a mechanic to do it! Simonis is a pain in the ass to stretch if you don't know what you are doing.

As far as the value of the table. I have seen Brunswick Gold Crowns all over used for $2000-$2500 depending on the condition, thats a top of the line table... My best guess for the Value of your table if it is in good condition would be $1000-$1500.

Hope it helps, sorry for my Bad grammar.
