Hey experts...closing in on a few used GC deals...rangng from gc2 to gc4. Various conditions etc. in GENRAL...."general"....are there tons of problems with these tables, or for the right price its worth it and can be fixed by a good mechanic? Ones in great condition are $$$$, but ones 10years old never been moved not so $$ I know nee cwoth, new cushions are a general need...but are they generally easy to fix if need work past that...AKA...are they costly to get playing right...not talking abut refinishing. Thanks.

Obvious one would be chipped/cracked slate. If its Brunstone you have tobe REAL careful moving it as that stuff is easy to break. Pocket facings my be beat to hell if its been in a commercial spot. Standard pocket size is 'roomy' but you can shim them a bit. Sub-rail extension is best way but $$ if done correctly.

Generally GC's are not a problematic table, about the only way you can get a better unmodified table is to buy a Diamond. Remember, these are commercial tables, many which are 50 years old already and will last another 50 years. You run into a problem putting new cushions on a GCI or GCII because they had Monarchs, they are not made anymore. For a proper set up you need to have the sub-rails modified but you can also get away using a current cushion if you are not picky. The GCIII's had somewhat of a problem with the frame sagging at the ends, it looks like a pretty simple fix if you are even just a little handy. I think more important than pocket size or anything else is finding a good mechanic to set the table up, even the worlds best table plays crappy if not set up properly.
