Surprised more did not reply?? I posted the below comments a while back so it is nothing totally new, just an idea to get more players out.
MAYBE...The Perfect Pool Tournament with a “A”, “B”, and “C”
Friend and I were talking over the weekend, as he saying he keep going out to play Events, and the turn outs keeps getting smaller and smaller. Pool appears to be out of vogue, and not drawing player like 3 or more years ago. We came up with a little idea that might help.
Think before this could happen you would need to establish each player ability as an “A”, “B”, “C” over a period of time to eliminate any SAND BAGGERS, but still nothing is ever perfect because people do play Hot & Cold.
Any way we were talking, and came up with this idea, all players would pay the same Entry be it $5.00 or more with a Max. of $10.00
(Entry Fee could be more as this is only an example) or more because of the Recession is killing everyone and many just do not have the money to go out and play a Pool tournament weekly.
Any way all “C’ Player would start out in one Mini Event with 80% of the “C” Players Entry Fee going to their "C" Prize fund, and the other 20% being marred it to the “A” player Event, and the same deal with the “B’s”.
Point being there was enough of a pot so that the “C” & “B” got an 80% Return on their Entry FEE, and depending upon number of player up to 25% of the “C” “B” players could be paid out of their MINI FUNDS.
The Winner of the “C” Event, or mini tournament, and the Winner of the “B” Event, or mini tournament could be merge into the “A” Event after winning their respective divisions.
Not sure if anyone has a Computer Program to do this but it would give the “C’s”, and “B’s” a return of a lard part of their entries should they merged victorious as their Division Winner, plus it would add 20% of their entree fees to the main event.
I think the other thing that turn people off about playing in Pool Tournaments is bad advertising, or the whole story not being told in Advertising, and or the Entree Forms.
This Room Owners, Bar Owner, Promoters need to get the information in the Advertising & on the Entree Forms about what I call "hidden" cost that effect pay outs.
Like Green Fee, Quarter or Bar Box Fee, Registration Fees that are taken out of the Entree Fee, TD get X-$'s Player outs of Entree Fees, and Last Terms of Added MONEY. It is 100% Guarantee no matter how many sign up or is it with Full field of 32, 64, 128 etc.
Get the Events Started on Time, Get Pay-outs post soon after the start, and maybe have clean Balls & clean Table to play on.
I recall asking Mike Janis one time on a Forum, what all the Advertisers did for the Player that Mike listed on The Viking Tour Web-site, Think Mike had like 40 or 50 Sponsors listed on his Viking Tour Web-site. So how did all these Sponsor participation Filter Down to the Player? Mike's reply was that was Proprietary Information.
