What type of rosewood is used in my cue?

as the more i play with this cue... the more I love how it plays, feels, and sounds in regards to hit.

I'd call Mr. Frey and ask him, but don't want to give him the impression I'm an unhappy customer.

I am totally confused by this....................
You said you love how it plays..feels..yada..yada.....but yet you wouldn't let the builder know this because your afraid he might think your an unhappy customer?

IF....and this is just MO.....but if I were the builder and my customer wanted to know anything about the cue I built him...I'D be upset if they didn't contact me and discuss it. Who would know better what is in your cue than the person that built it themselves?
And I'd be more pissed if I found out they were on a forum asking questions about the cue that I built them before they contacted me.
Maybe I have a weird sense of understanding but I wouldn't be happy and would start to think that maybe they didn't like something about the cue and that's why they didn't contact me......

<~~~maybe it's just me...........

My friend, I understand 100% where your coming from.
Here's the the thing though........the term "rosewood" is basically a generic term used to cover a very large number of species.
Now many people could come on here and look at it and say it looks like this type or it looks like that. But what I was trying to say is that the maker themselves would probably know without a shadow of a doubt and there would be no guess work.
I all my years of building cues I can look at any of my cues and tell you what type of woods I used in them. That's the only point I was trying to make. Well.......maybe there were a few others, but that was the main point anyway.

<~~~so what kind of rosewood is it?...................

In most cases, the maker is more than happy to recieve a call asking a question such as yours. But if they hear thru the grapevine that someone is asking such and such...it gives the appearance of an unhappy/ distrustfull customer. With just about all the makers here, the door doesn't close once you get the cue, it's always open, for tweaks and questions, even years down the road. It's one of the few trades that will do that for the customer. IMO, always ask the questions, but it's recommended to always start with the maker first, and avoid stepping on toes, etc.
looks like a nice cue, but would be nice to see the rest of it:)

In the post where TheDude gave a link to view the cue, it states as a description:
Custom Bob Frey cue
Cocobola Butt & Handel
with black/white Rambo Butt Cap
B, C, D, & E rings of Black Fiber
and Polished Brass
Two shafts
4 Cocobola points
with black, orange, & green veneers
3/8" 10 thread pin

It never states anything about rosewood. If my memory serves me right, isn't cocobola a member of the rosewood family? Therefore, one would think that the Original Poster already had the answer to the question?
Oh well......

he is correct... never really looked at the pics on cuesnthings.com, JP posted them up here on az without the description. My paper receipt simply said rosewood. the answer was right under my nose. my bad.:embarrassed2:

Cocobolo it is. Its a great cue to play with. the pics don't do the wood or the veneers justice. cue was made and delivered in two months, two weeks(i was given a minimum of three months for the cue to be finished when ordered.)

I hate when I look in all the wrong places for something that is right under nose....wasted minutes of my life I'll never be able to recover.

Glad your quest has ended and you know what it is....
