What would the fair current value be for this Scruggs?

Hi all,

My friend wants me to sell him this cue, what would the current value be considering Scruggs just increased the prices and plus the fact that he will not be making anymore cues very soon.

4 pts in cocobolo with 4 veneers.
Ivory hoppe ring.
Solid ivory joint (not just a sleeve like some other cuemakers) with a radial pin.
2 shafts
brand new

Thanks for the input.

I dont agree with market value these days but Ive seen them go for around 1800-2000, a friend price is anything less.

Screw money

If you are his friend who cares what it is worth. I let one of my buds get a Scruggs cue that was easily 600 over that cue and I mean easily for what it cost me in 92. He turned around and sold it now he is letitng me get a ebony titlist conversion with a ivory radial pin for what he has in it we both cut each other 800 to 1'000 easy. Is he your friend and are you his too. Sell for whatyou paid and he will always thank you. Thats a friend. I sold mine for 1100 with a centenial case he in return let me get a new bella sara ebony titlist conversion cue with ivory everytinng under 700 are we nuts? Well we will probably be friends for a long time. Nick

brand new

FWIW: I think that the secondary market does not demand anywhere near the $1900 that Tim can ask for a new "basic" cue - some high end cues may be different. My estimate for your standard 4 pointer is somewhere around $1200-$1500 depending on condition, location, and emotion (among other things).

Further, just because Tim recently raised prices, doesn't mean a cue he made 5 years ago (or 1 month ago) "automatically" appreciates in value the same amount. The market dictates value - which means you might actually get more money by offering the cue here or on eBay, or maybe not.

Also, even if the cue is "brand new" it isn't directly from Tim - which IS worth something. Just like cars, cues depreciate the minute "you drive them off the lot." For most cars, it takes around 20-30 years before they start to appreciate and are *finally* worth more than the MSRP (I don't put much weight in the "tim is going to stop making cues eventually" - ALL cuemakers stop, so sayeth the Grim Reaper ;) )

It all boils down to what many people have stated here before: If you name a price, and your friend pays it, then that's a fair price for all parties involved.

I just got a 2005 4-point, 4-veneer basic cue in ebony with BEM windows in the butt and I paid $1700 off the street at the DCC.
Have to agree with the prices noted above for the earlier years.

Price

Once again a dead horse getting beat in another thread...the price is what someone is willing to pay for it. Good/low cue prices are being at the right place at the right time. Demand determines price and with TS on the path to retirement and he himself raising prices....

Listen up Azers

Tim told me personally when he would raise his prices then he did. He was planning to retire long before his health problems. He is well off and knows his health is his only concern. So believe me, soon his cues will only be gotten on the secondary market period. Though it is true Mike has made all the blanks since 1984. When he starts buildinging his cues exclusively so many of us that know his work expect those cues to cost even more than Tim's cues do know. I can't foresee Mike doing anything on the cheap. Not even for me sob sob. They are both friends and I am telling you what I know buyem and hold on to them and also the newer they are the better they play almost every time. And the old one played great! HEAR ME NOW AND BELIEVE ME LATER Nick
