I'm hoping someone here figured out which minwax stain color is the closest match for GC2 skirts or can tell me what the original finish is called. It's quite dark.

Building a light to match the GC2 and need to match the skirt color on to the wood frame of the light.

Thanks for any help.

I used minwax, mahogany stain and a matte clear wipe on polyurethane. Red Oak and rosewood stain were also very close.

Might want to consider using a Minwax gel stain version. Very easy to use, as you can vary the depth of color by how long you leave it on, and how much you rub off. Also keep in mind that you can also mix two stains together to get the tone that you need. As to color that you end up with, what one person used, and worked, will not be the same for you, unless your raw wood is the same. Even with in same species of wood, color can vary substantially. You have the advantage, in that you could test the stain on the inside first. Color will darken slightly once you put poly top coat on. Minwax has helpful samples of their stains on different wood species, that are very helpful.

Red Mahogany with equal part Special Walnut will get you pretty close dedpending of course on the type of wood you're staining. Pine will show distinct grain streaks where poplar will be more even. You also might need a pre stain sealer/conditioner. Experimenting on scrap or the inside of the project will be needed to get the best formula. Mitch

Selling this GC2 near atlanta. Anyone interested? It's had maybe 100 plays since being set up and refelted. We just don't play it enough to warrant the space it takes up.

Close should be good enough that nobody will notice but I would definitely stain a scrap piece of wood to test and compare.
