When did the aiming technique change?

If you look at old billiards pictures, you will notice that the players stand pretty much upright when they shoot. You don't see anyone do this today.

In the billards books that i have, they say to have your head about a foot above the cue.

Today you see almost all of the top pros with their chins practically on the cue.

I was wondering what causes the change in these shooting styles and if my books are outdated saying that you should shoot with your head a foot or more above the cue.
 
i noticed it too. even today, all the "old timers" stand high over their shot.
 
its because you see the path of the cb more clearly with that stance. i play like that during long shots.
 
I think up or down, the aim is still the same per se.

What really changed the aim is the spliced shaft technology. With majority of the spliced shafts, a fuller inside aim adjustment is needed especially when using a forceful shot with inside english on it.
