Looking for good tables, and good food is a plus.

I will be downtown near the convention center.

I saw Jolt'n Joes website, but there are lots of places and I will probably have time for only one.

Your recommendations are valued and appreciated.

THANKS!

If you have a car then I would highly recommend you venture out and go to On Cue. The people are really nice and it will be easy for you to get a game if you want one.

If you're in Gaslamp, already paid your $25 bucks for parking and don't want to leave the area, then walk over to JnJ's.

If you checked out the link in post #2 you should forget Hungry Stick, Society and Jolt N Joes in La Mesa. I Haven't been in the downtown JNJ for years so cannot comment on it.

College Billiards 5303 El Cajon Blvd, San Diego 619-582-4550 talk to Timo or Pedro (owners). Approx 7 miles from downtown.
Tuesday night 9 ball tourney
Tables 11 & 12 have tightened up pockets ( 4 or 4/12, can't remember which) - excellent lighting - generally golf game going on - 1P players generally around - six 3 cushion tables - 12 orig GCs - 1 1985ish Diamond - burgers - tacos - sandwiches, etc.
side note - Pedro is a world ranked 3C player

On Cue Billiards 8308 Parkway Dr, La Mesa 619-463-8759 talk to Clyde (owner). Approx 12 miles from downtown
Very good Monday night 9 ball tourney - lot of "A" players
Twenty some GCs with standard pockets - lighting is NOT that good.
Micro snacks - burgers - sandwiches, etc (Subway is in strip center)
Generally some kind of action going on.

Both of the above are worth the cab fare. Enjoy

You didn't indicate when you were going to be here ?? The annual "Swanee" is going to be at Hard Times on Feb 12 & 13. I will be up there Feb 12th if you would like to "ride along"

ah-ha......I remember it being on Sports Arena right near the corner of Rosecrans in a small strip center with a "danish" furniture store, tropical fish store & I forget what else was in there....maybe they had low ceilings giving it a "small" feeling.

I was only there a few times - but I DO remember beating Sam Manaole there (before his game really took off LOL)

I left San Diego a little over six years ago. Have they finally cleaned up around College? Long ago and up through Griffin's ownership it was ok. I never played there a lot, but my friend Norm Pos played there for many years and finally quit going because the area around it really wasn't safe at night, especially the parking lot.

Several years ago a Senior housing/mixed use building was put up across the street. Takes up half of the block. So it is pretty quiet around there now.

They have cameras watching over the back parking lot and it is lit at night.

I do spend most of my "9 footer" time there as I prefer the good lighting (and my 1P teacher is there :)) and have no qualms leaving at 1 or 2 am to go to my car unescorted.

Anyone remember STAR Billiards on Sports Arena? I miss that place... :(

Star Billiards was my home room when I first moved to SD in '96. I'm sure it had over 20 tables. If it wasn't for that one little gang incident, it would still be there.

Now Fran, stop being so hard on Society Billiards. I practically lived in that place. Although they didn't have good tables or lighting, they did have friendly folks, great food and a lot of nice scenery right out on the patio.

There were better conditions than Society, but I always had the most fun playing there because of a few regulars who were very cool. 8balleinstein being one of them. Their food was always better than any other hall, IMO.

Star closed not too long after I started playing in SD...believe me, Manole has a lot worse memories than losing to you, Meezer girl.

If by any chance you have military base access I would go to 32nd st bowling alley on base, it's not far from the conv. center and they have about 12 9ft tables all refelted about a month-2 months ago. And it's pretty quiet all day long. They have food and a bar.

The hungry stick has a variety from 7 foot bar tables to 9 footers, about 20 tables and a bar/kitchen it's in Clairmont, but usually has league there everynight.

Never been to JoltnJoes down town and they have another JnJ in La Mesa, and I heard it's 3 stories and really nice.

There's also a bar in National City called Stoney's, it has 7 bar tables but the bouncer is a Douche.
