Has anyone ever heard of a road player named "Highway" Paul Baker? I believe he was from Pa. He drove a blue van at 1 time, his girlfriend or wife had long dark hair and would sit and read a paperback novel while Paul raked in the cash.
This was in the late 70's early 80's. Just wondering what happened to him and if he's still around. At the time he was the best i ever saw.
I know Paul....he's from Des Moines and still lives around here somewhere.
Sorry to say, but you can now find him at Prairie Meadows casino, or Mesquaki casino, or Terribles casino. He still plays pool but his eyes are shot and his fire for the game isn't what it was.
The thing I remember most about Paul is his 'dominant eye' comments. He fucked up my game for about 6 months with one little comment. I laugh now, thinking how he probably used those comments for winning matches. He also was real big on left/right brain thinking. He said, for example, that the direction a player comes into his stance is vital to the brain for doing its job. Some say he's just full of b/s, but he can shoot, for sure. I listen when he talks, but with a critical mind.
He was very good, but always played second fiddle to Don McCaughey around here.
If you'd like, I could give you the last address I have in my address book....PM me for that. Also, you can find him once in a while at the new pool hall in town, Big Dog Billiards.
