Which cue would you choose? Schon or Predator?

Which cue would you purchase?

I have narrowed my search for a cue down to two cues and I need some advice since I don't have access to try either one out. I am looking at a Schon CX05 and a Predator Blak 1. For those of you that have shot with both which do you prefer?

I haven't shot with many different cues in quite a while, I have actually had my same two sticks ($400ish Falcon and Meucci sneaky pete) for the past 15 years. Considering I am 32 years old that's quite a while.

One other question, if I get the Schon should I go ahead and order a Predator shaft for it or is the Schon shaft just as nice?

Thanks for any and all advice.

*note - if voting for neither please give an explanation as to why.

In my opinion, the Schon would be the better cue hands down. I've been playing with the same Schon for over 20 years and I've never had an issue with it. They are considered by many to be the finest production cue made. Now, whether you should use the Schon shaft or a Predator shaft, that is something you will need to decide on your own because everybody is different. If you have experimented with low deflection shafts from Predator and like them, then you may want to go with a Predator shaft. Personally, I prefer the stock Schon shaft as they are excellent shafts.

Good luck,

Randy

Schon makes a fine cue

I've never been disappointed with a Schon. The only reason I might consider a Predator is that they tend to hold their value fairly well. I have loved every Schon cue I have owned, but seldom have I gotten a good return on my investment when moving into the next cue. Buy a Schon and plan to keep it keep it. They play superbly.

I prefer the Schon hit to the Predator hit. If you like the predator more, then go for a shaft. At one point, Pagulayan used a Schon with a Predator shaft and we all know what he has accomplished.

I've owned quite a few different Schon cues over the years. If I found a good buy on one i'd buy it and play with it for a while and then sell it down the road for what I had in it. I've been pleased with the way all of the Schon cues i've owned have played.

It's no problem to use a predator shaft on a Schon if you like the hit of a predator (I use predator shafts on all of my cues).

I have a wrapless Schon Stl-21 now that I play with sometimes and I use a predator shaft on it.

stick a 314-deuce shaft on that schon!

Thanks for the replies (and pm's) about the cues, I really appreciate the help making my decision. I ordered the Schon and decided to hold off on the Predator shaft until after I try the cue out for a while.

I remember when I was younger one of the really good shooters around here had a Schon and I really liked that cue the couple of times he let me shoot with it. That has been a few years ago though.

Just found out I won't be getting the CX05. The black marble that is pictured isn't accurate, it's actually a green marble that takes away from the cue. The points are a little different as well. Pooldawg was cool enough to let me know before it was shipped and gave me a discount on the difference in the price of this cue and the one I upgraded to. I ended up going with this one.

I've been collecting custom cues for better than 10 years now. When I first started out and knew nothing about cues...I was collection Schon LTD's. I no longer have any of them...but I can honestly say there are many I wish I'd held on to. They were wonderful players, and downright beautiful cues...regardless of whether there were 12 of them built or not.

Ive had a schon and a predator. i sold the predator and kept the schon. just seems of a higher quality. id say go with a custom though.

I voted neither only because I love Schon, and Pred. I would go with a Schon/Pred shaft combo. Plenty for sale on AZ if you watch for them.

Good Luck

Thanks. I've been shooting with the Schon for a few weeks now and I am very happy with it.

Good choice on the schon

I have a schon with an OB1 shaft and I love it, I think the schons hits better than the predators but thats just my opinion.
