Which wood to use?

I'm having a cue built and I'd like to eliminate the weight bolts out of the cue if possible so I wanted to get a good group opinion on what the best wood would be to make the butt end of the cue out of to have a cue around 18-19 oz's. Maybe Purplehart? Or is that too heavy?

All opinions appreciated,
Curtis

If you are going to make it a one piece butt purple heart would be a good choice. East Indies Rosewood would also be a good choice. You just have to weigh the pieces and no pick the heavier ones.

Are you just looking to make a one-piece butt, 2 section spliced butt or the traditional A-jointed 3 section butt? How much does your shaft weigh? What joint pin do you prefer? Joint material? With or without a wrap? What kind? Overall cue length? Balance point? Stroking hand area diameter? Predominantly light woods or dark woods?

I would actually like him to make it a one piece butt. The cue would be a normal 58" cue with a regular 13mm pro taper maple shaft. He is also building the shaft to match the cue. I prefer a wood to wood stainless or brass pin with a phenolic flat faced joint. That's what he'll be using anyhow. The cue would be Irish Linen wrapped and have a butt cap ring that is very simular to the southwest rings. I would like my balance point to be a bit more forward than normal. Maybe a 1/4"-1/8" more forward down the cue than the one I am currently shooting with. As far as woods, I have no preference of wood shade. I wouldn't mind shooting with a really nice figured cocobolo cue but if that's not the wood for the function then i'd have no problem passing it by.

Thanks,
Curtis

I dont understand your desire to eleminate all weight bolts in your cue.
A custom cue is a system of parts and pieces constructed to have the desired weight and balance that you prefer.
Do you think the absence of any weight bolts would make a better playing cue or is it just something you want to have?
