Who has the first Televised 147?

What a moment it must be for Cliff Thorburn! I believe the gentleman in a pale brown suit greeting Cliff after he finished his run was Bill Werbernik (spelling?), who passed away either last year or the year before.

I find it quite interesting to see how Cliff Thorburn could generate so much power with such a short back swing and stroke. The pot on that yellow was so beautiful! I also like the few shots he played using the rest, the black thin cut whereas he needed to cue over a ball, and the second last red, whereas he needed to get the right angle on the black to play the last red in the side. It looked as if he might snooker himself on that last red, but then it came out perfect.

Thank you for the links to the videos!

Yes that was his good friend Bill Werbeniuk. Bill was just as proud as Cliff was and it showed.

Here's a clip that shows how Bill was. A super nice guy

1982 - Lada Classic - Steve Davis vs John Spencer – Frame 5 – First 147 On TV

Ironically it was actually John Spencer who had the first 147 in a televised tournament a few years earlier. Unfortunately for John the cameraman was on his teabreak at the time.

No - true. The information is out there. Google is your friend. I wouldn't bet on Steve Davis not having been his opponent either, but I can't be bothered to check.
