Who makes the best case for the money?

I am going to buy a new case VERY soon, probably at SBE.

I am considering all of the BIG makers like Justis, Whitten, Murnak.................

What do you think of the sought after case makers and their product?

I think Jack Justis is still "the man". But you wanted "best for the money"??? If protection is the main criteria, Porper, Guiseppe, others of similar design protect very well. Let's face it...leather cases work well, but they are also bought for their looks...their status if you will.
 
Protection, style, class... Murnak embodies all of these things, and at an affordable price.

I finally got my custom-made Justis last fall after years and years of waiting to have the spare $$$ laying around. Get a Justis quick as he is scaling down production over the next year or so and after that, he said he'll only make as many as time dictates after playing with his grandkids! I got one with all the bells and whistles, figuring it's my chance to get the "Szamboti" of cases from the man himself. Thanks Jack for a great case that I'll have the rest of my life!

Jack Justis, Jack Justis, Jack Justis. I just sent mine back, he replaced the inlays in the dimonds on the bottom pocket for free, with better material.

When I first got mine ( I spent about 4 days talking to him on the phone pickng out all my goodies) I didnt even undo the shoulder strap for the first 3 months the thing looked so damn good.

If I had a scanner, I would post the letter I got back from Dennis Swift after I sent back the case I ordered (custom) fom him. Lets just say he felt I was being to picky when my 700$ case showed up with 6 spots on the leather were big drops dye fell. One was the size of a quarter right below the latch for the lid...Let me just say thaks for d*cking me around Dennis had you not I would not have met Jack....

I will say (as much as I hate to say anything about any body but Jack) I saw a case made by JB Cases the other day. For the money, its right there. The big seller on His case for me was the leather, it was really thick. The case itself was simple ( Im sure he can do more tooling ), but nice, and like I said the leather, would last a life time for sure..

affordable? I agree his cases are just bad a$$ and Id love to have one... but the affordable part... dunno bout that. The case you showed which I assume is yours would run $800+... NOT affordable for middle class bums like me that are married trying to raise a family in this TRAIN WRECK of an economy.

The title of this thread does not match the content. "For the money", Porper and Giuseppe are fighting it out. Personally, I like Porper since they're lighter.


Now, on to the REAL topic - IMO, Dan Whitten makes the most beautiful cases. Really, the only company that could even come close would be if Coach came out with a cue case line. However, I prefer cases that are subtle. The Whitten cases can only be appreciated when you're up close.

Murnak and Justice have both done excellent work but both seem to be more involved in embossings and brass rivets which is too much for me. If that's your style, they're the ones to go to.
 
John Barton, who posts here as JBCases makes some very high quality, and gorgeous cases.

If budget is a big issue, consider an Instroke. The are production cases, but with excellent protection, and good functional design.

To keep my response on track, Gloworm I would figure out what you want to spend and then see who is in your range. There are great options out there.

ITS GOERGE CASES ARE THE BEST. I LIKE THE VACCUM SEALED. NO CASE MADE "PROTECTS BETTER" imo JACK JUSTIS IS THE BEST CUSTOM MAKER IMO

but for the cash. dennis swift under 300 and start to finish 2 weeks is unbeatable

I too prefer subtlety, and Whitten cases.
 
A pretty new case company, John Hager's design is quite different, but I can tell you this...it grabs attention, and his price point would be hard to beat from all you get.

how long is the wait for a custom Justis? Ive had a couple nice ones of his but Ive never had one made by him and Id like to.
