Why does the Billiard Industry operate at a discounted rate ?????

I have noticed over the last 9 years that MOST of our industry operates on a: 1. I am somebody who should get stuff for almost wholesale or below, 2. I know someone in the business and that should get ME stuff for almost wholesale or below or 3. I am going to be someone in the business that should get stuff for almost wholesale or below

NONE OF THESE ARE EXCUSES FOR A DISCOUNT>

It really comes from people who do not have any business ethics. If there is MSRP or at least MAP pricing you are supposed to follow in those guidelines.
People undercutting one another is how it happens. I will pass on a sale, rather than take less.

I give a little bit of discount for me not being a retailer, but, I also do not give them the products for wholesale or break my agreement.
Making money involves a good formula and mine does not include working for very little or free.
Charging properly for ALL materials and accessories is how you MAKE money and not LOSE.

Then you have the most WRONG situation you could have: Factory Direct Pricing and the same company having a network of dealers that CONSISTENTLY undercut one another AND THE FACTORY> This is the worst way to operate I have ever seen.

What can we do to help this??

Eliminate all dealers and only allow factory direct purchases.

It's the solution but nobody in the industry would like it. The manufacturer leaves a little meat on the bones for dealers because they need them. It's a symbiotic relationship.
Have you ever dealt with Diamond?? AHHHAHAHAHAHAHHA people would storm the factory and BURN IT DOWN. Us Diamond Dealers(I still sell commercially) that are Mechanics & Installers are what make their company work. They have so few drivers and installers, it would surely be the end of them... Expansion is hard for ANY company right now, have you tried to hire anyone recently???? No one can keep employees right now and finding new ones with SKILLS is hard.

Short answer: For the most part, pool players as are cheap.
Hence , companies like mine are looking for new markets!! Might explain why Brunswick, Imperial, Championship and Cue & Case were all at the HHB EXPO in Atlanta earlier this month. The current business model is heavily flawed and basically a bad nightmare. People with money dont want to go to pool halls, they still want to play pool. New rooms that offer MORE, need to open!! EXAMPLE : My client Surge in Chicago, Wahib gets it and is actually doing something about it: he has the 2 nicest pool rooms in the country!! Surge on Montrose and Fullerton!! https://surgebilliards.com/ I am blessed to be involved in projects that are bigger than ME.

I do the opposite, I go to my local billiards shop who is also a cue maker. I have bought Centennials, Cyclops, cue balls, Simonis 860 cloth etc from him. Everyone tells me that I should use the interweb for that stuff cause it will save me money. It might save some dollars but it is important for me to have the option of going to a brick and mortar business where I can touch items or see them in person before making a purchasing decision. If everyone keeps using the interweb for that stuff we wont have brick and mortar businesses much longer.

POOL HALLS NEED TO BE SUPPORTED IN THE SAME FASHION. Sad part is most of them cannot afford to offer as many services or sell as many products because its expensive and hard enough to maintain all the stuff they already do.
BIG CHANGES COMING SOON! We are opening small 8 On the Break Sub-stations at pool halls around the country!!! They will sell every product and service we already do: MORE PRODUCTS AND SERVICES COMING !! OUR LIGHTS ARE SHINING SO BRIGHT!!!!

I deleted my dissertation. You're Welcome.

As a Salesman I think I understand what you're saying. Hopefully its about making the profit margin required to stay in business.

I don't know why, and I'm speaking of the Small Rooms, Small Dealers/Suppliers. Not the big guys.
Speaking of those working out of their trunk so to speak and trying to build a business.
It's a shame these folks can't think of a better way to sell themselves, their service, their inventory without going down the discount path.

I sell what most would consider a family of Impact Wrenches that are bought for between $800 - $3,500. I advise my Dealers to not discount. "Nobody can do what this tool can do." Why discount if there's no competition? None, that can compete at that price. Anyone that beats these tools on a performance level will cost them well over $15K.
