Hey guys,
I was reading my second bible, chris hightowers cue building book and i noticed that in the wrap section it says that a substitute for a wrap flatting tool is oak, and i was just wondering what makes the properties of oak so special or would any wood be suffice as i live in australia and oak isnt that common around here, Thanks Joel

Oak is common around here and that is mainly why I have used it. Tried maple also and didn't like it. You probably have hard woods there that will work as well. It will only cost you a dollar or two to experiment. Once you use the oak it burnishes a nice smooth groove into the two boards. I have also seen people use formica veneers to polish with.
