Was wondering if Fargo will ever update there app again? Seems like it hasn't been updated in ages. Would be cool to see some new features. I'd like to see in previous match history what the Fargo was of my opponent and myself at the time that we played.

What kind of features would you guys like to see added?

My FargoRate for table size

My FargoRate for game type

Stats on combinations of table size, game type. So I can see if 8Ball on a 7ft table is my strongest combo for example.

My Lowest ever FargoRate and my highest ever FargoRate

Biggest scalps, meaning, over a match (I don't count single game league) who did I beat. Say, I played a player 200 points higher than me in a race to 5 and won.

Same for viewing an opponent for the above.

One thing that won't happen, as not all source data is good enough are stats on break and runs, table runs.

Severely doubt it. Mike Page seems content to milk Fargorate for league income, rather than grow it into the global standard, like chess ratings...

A refined time series showing your rating over time would be my number one request. It's there but largely unreadable and unusable.

They also have a link to your league schedule but that is mostly useless. Why only the next match and not previous ones? Also can’t you choose multiple leagues?

A league page with the same information as the LMS web site.

Fuzzy matches of names to fix/find misspellings.

Better search by name, state, city. I haven’t figured out how to do this on the app.

There are so many opportunities but their focus seems to be elsewhere.

I second this. With so much data in the Fargorate system it's frustrating for us wonky types to not have access to it every way from sunday. Lots of observations to be garnered as proven by Mike's videos he posts from time to time but if we all had similar access who knows what might come into focus?

How cool would it be if pool had something like this?

Making player names clickable to a summary page would be amazing.

I would like to see the ability to click through from my matches to the profile of the opponent.

I too would like the ability to see my rating by table and by game.

The only thing reported to Fargo for matches is who you played and what the score was. Table size or game does not get entered unless you look at an event this happened during. Meaning if you have stats for the US Open, you know it's 9 foot table 9 ball. If you played in some random tournament that won't show up. Same thing for league matches, unless the league is known to play at one place with a single table size. When I was playing in USAPL we had both in-house and travel leagues, and played 8,9 and 10 ball, all the results were mixed in for all the games and table sizes.

This is not accurate.

I submit tournaments to FargoRate, they have a CSV template that asks for table size and game type.

As a tournament director, you would know this.

I use the Budtour program, there is no table size listed there. Game is but that is for the tournament setup. The ratings are not calculated using that info, so there is not likely going to be any ratings specifically taken out by game or table size since that would need to be extracted from the general mass or results.

They have had this in a simple text format in USCF for at least 20 years or so at this point. Not sure why Mike Page is trying to reinvent the wheel, instead of just following the USCF template. It's fantastic, and really generates interest in tournaments.

Actually, I DO know why. USCF shows ALL tournament results, for ALL players, to anyone with a web browser. Pool players don't want "all" their results so readily available to anyone with an internet connection, as it may prevent them from hustling someone for a $100 race to 7. And Mike Page is pandering to that element, with one of the major failings of the system is allowing people to "share or not share" their results.

The gambling motive to hide one's true skill in pool is absolutely toxic to a rating system trying to gather, and disseminate data about all games.

This is also something the United States Chess Federation has had for 20+ years. I regularly go back and check out how people I played in high school are faring these days in their game. I am now 47.

If it not clear, I am a big fan of Fargorate, as the mathematics of the rating system are solid, but I am very much NOT a fan of how poorly Mike Page is handling the whole growth of the product outside of the math.

If I play a “friendly“ chess match against you for $100, that result shows in USCF?

Or just tournaments that are run under the auspices of USCF?

Are there not tournaments anywhere, that are not run under the auspices of USCF?

This is a little aggressive. There are simpler and more benign reasons for why the system looks like it does than the idea that Mike is somehow pandering to gamblers.

My wish list:
  1. Change default setting so uploaded matches are public. Current default is private. If someone is out to hide their results against specific players then they can adjust the setting. However I'm willing to wager most don't bother making results public because it's simply not on their radar to do so. Not in an effort to hide anything.
  2. Loose the 'hot/med/mild' race thing and replace with a match calculator that determines the spread that is required to have a positive result on a fix race. Currently you will need to use the "odds" function and adjust the losers score until you see the odds are just not in your favour. That should equate to a positive result for your effort. I see value in dropping in two ratings, adding a race length, and seeing what the outcome according to fargo should be.
  3. Add a date stamp and rating to the 'Rate Change' graph cursor. Not sure why you have the ability to cursor along the graph line if it doesn't provide you any related data. Storing all the data on a player week by week would be cumbersome, but the graph already exists so why not present the data it's using to plot the line...?

If Mike doesn't wander in over the next few days. We can just add a post that claims "The APA Equalizer" works better. That should perk his ears and generate a response....lol
