Wobble in butt.

Hi, I have a custom cue that has developed a "wobble" in the butt. It does not seem to be a warping issue but rather a "cocking" at the joint between the handle and the forearm. (has half splice points) If I put a straight edge along the handle, it is flush until it gets to the forearm and conversely, if I put the straight edge along the forearm, it is flush until it reaches the handle. I believe that I am very good about storing my cues. they are either in a case or shipping tube and laid flat. Are not subject to high heat or intense cold and not in a humid environment. This particular cue was in a sleeve made of table felt, in a tube and laying flat. The cue does not have a mark on it and has never been dropped. Other cues stored in the same fashion and nearby this one are straight. Can you tell me how this may have happened?

I'm assuming that when you did your test with the straight edge that the forearm was off in one direction only and not in all directions as you would get in a butt with a compound taper. In this case, I believe what has probably occurred is that the metal stud was not inserted straight or that the faces of the prong/handle were not perfectly square causing a tension in this area. After awhile, the stud finally pulled the prong out of square.

Sounds like the tennon between the forearm an the handle wasn't faced properly, and/or the pin between handle and forearm is off center as rhncue said previously.

Yes, the "cocking" is in only one direction. The cue was straight when I first got it 6 months ago. Your descriptions of the issue seem to make sense. If this is the problem, can it be fixed? Thanks for your help.
