First round draw for the WSC

Ronnie O'Sullivan v Marcus Campbell
Ali Carter v Ben Woollaston
Stuart Bingham v Sam Baird
John Higgins v Mark Davis
Shaun Murphy v Martin Gould
Graeme Dott v Peter Ebdon
Matthew Stevens v Marco Fu
Judd Trump v Dominic Dale
Neil Robertson v Robert Milkins
Ricky Walden v Michael Holt
Mark Williams v Michael White
Stephen Maguire v Dechewat Poomjaeng
Mark Allen v Mark King
Ding Junhui v Alan McManus
Barry Hawkins v Jack Lisowski
Mark Selby v Matthew Selt

Couple of things there...firstly, few upsets are likely in the first round - Milkins might catch Robertson cold (hopefully), but can't see too many upsets, or even close matches. Secondly, they're all British, well at least 29/32 are. The power shift hasn't happened yet...

Actually 28 :D
Plus
Ding Junhui - China
Marco Fu - Hong Kong
Neil Robertson - Australia
Dechewat Poomjaeng - Thailand

Not a bad quartet to deliver the Championship.
Fu has the best record of any performer in the circus against O'Sullivan.

I see you're from the west coast....do you remember Marco as a teenager?
I thought he was a respectful young man. He has ran a lot of centuries in
tournament play....so I'm betting on him a 66/1...maybe sentimental.:embarrassed2:

Yes Marco was playing here when I returned (1991) but went back to Hong Kong not long after.
Good luck with your bet

Ah yes, I included Robertson on the basis all Aussies like to think they're British.

Lisowski was 66s a few days ago - that's a better bet than Fu, I'd say.

Is it just me or does the quality seem a little thin this year?

I can see the seeds going out in these matches.

Ali Carter v Ben Woollaston
John Higgins v Mark Davis
Ricky Walden v Michael Holt
Mark Williams v Michael White
Barry Hawkins v Jack Lisowski

I agree with Slasher, and would add:
Marco Fu over Matthew Stevens
Martin Gould to defeat Shaun Murphy

So we seem to have expectations that performances will not reflect rankings.

Last year I think all my predictions had crashed and burned by the second round. :frown:

Your right I probably should have added the Fu/Stevens match this one could go either way, just don't like their second round :) Fu/Trump would be interesting to watch though, what a contrast.

What they had to overcome:

Depression
Mark Allen
Graeme Dott
Ronnie O'Sullivan

Medical
Ali Carter - Crohns
Jak Lisowski - cancer

Young kids
disrupting sleep and practice routine
Marco Fu
Neil Robertson
Mark Allen - separated
Ben Woollaston

Any I missed?
