The main tournament has started (after three days of qualifications). All the top players are there. Half way through the round of 32, there are a couple of surprises already: Tasdemir defeated Sayginer, and Philipoom beat Merckx. Jaspers averaged 2.25 in his win over Kasidokostas.

Update:

They are down to the final eight, and Jaspers looks to be in top form. He beat Philipoom 3-1 and averaged over 4 in the three sets he won -- 45 points in 11 innings. Kozoom has commentary (in French) and a link to the official UMB site.

Update:

In the quarter-finals Blomdahl beat Zanetti 3-2 despite Zanetti's average of 1.9, and Jaspers defeated DeBacker 3-0 averaging 3.2. Jaspers average for the tournament so far is 2.593. I believe he once averaged 2.66 for an entire tournament. Jaspers will face Blomdahl in the semis.

Still to play in the quarter-finals, Caudron vs Forthomme (both from Belgium) and Rudolph vs Horn (both from Germany).
