World Summit of Pool on ESPN2

I'm confused - Were the televised finals shown played at Slate or at the ESPN Zone in NY? I almost flipped off this when I first saw it as, from the visual appearance, it appeared to be a tournament from 10 years ago given how shoddy and unprofessional everything looked. Even the Gold Crown table looked sooooo old fashioned, it wasn't until I saw a close up of a the flush pocket liner I realized it was a GC IV.

It was my understanding that the tourney was played @ Slates & the finals were played at the ESPN Zone in Manhattan.

It's easy to say how people SHOULD play on TV, but unless you have actually done it I would be careful to cast stones. Look at how much TV time Allison has had compared to any of the men you just mentioned.

In my opinion she is way more comfortable in front of the camera than any other male, except for Archer, he plays great all the time. If you put any top male pro in front of the camera as much as Allison or Karen has they would play close to the top of their game, just like the females do.

I'm just telling you that from a viewer's standpoint, having watched Allison play a lot of TV matches, that there is no comparison to the way Corey was playing yesterday on TV to how Allison plays routinely on TV. His cb control was horrible. You very seldom see Allison lose control of the cb.

Your point about how tough it is to play on TV is one that I made a long time ago and was the reason I gave the women a little bump in skill because I would imagine it to be very difficult. I'm not saying that I'm going to mortgage my house on a money game between Allison and Corey but I can say that from my observations watching TV, Allison generally plays better than how I saw Corey playing.

Were you at the finals of the BCA in Vegas this yr? It was a brutally ugly match from the parts that I saw... both she & KC were missing shots that they shouldn't...good thing it's taped & edited as opposed to a live telecast. Even pro's are going to have off days. I can't run 3 balls but once in awhile I pull something out of a place where the sun doesn't shine... every game & every day is different...even the pro's can't play perfect all the time.

No I wasn't. I know everyone has an off night and maybe that's what happened to Corey. However, JJ and Mika didn't look very good either. We've had these discussions on here about whose better the women or the men. Most everyone has overwhelmingly sided with the men. All I'm saying is that the men didn't look overwhelmingly better than the women imho.

Exactly my point. Having watched Allison play on TV a lot because she GETS to play on TV a lot. I don't have exact numbers, but I bet WPBA events get televised maybe 10:1 compared to UPA or Independent events.

Well, they did mention that Corey had said that he likes playing on TV. The point I was trying to make is that whether they were playing on TV or not, the men just don't look that superior to the women. Maybe in a money game, the men would usually come out on top but in a tournament format on TV, I don't see a huge difference in their skills and as a matter of fact, given that tournament yesterday, the women look better.

Yes, they do "look" better when taken out of context. If you put both of them on TV against each other in an even playing field you will soon see the difference in the level of play. Not knocking Allison or Karen, they are both exquisite players, but the men do play better (for whatever reason) than the women do.

I would argue with you that the difference is not that appreciable, at least not that I could tell at this point. This is why I'm so anxious about the IPT because for the first time, the women and men will compete on a level playing field on TV. It's going to be exciting!!

True, but if you take the Jones/Sigel match as Golden like you do the matches you named earlier then you would appreciate the scores of 9-2, 9-2 with Sigel winning both sets.

Yeah but Jones has not been near the top of the women for quite a while. I know that Mike hasn't been playing either but I think his credentials are better than Lori's. We could argue about this and go back and forth when we really don't need to because this upcoming IPT is going to answer all the arguments. Part of me thinks the men are just going to stomp the women but every time I see Allison and Karen play on TV, I wonder. They sure do look awfully good to me!
